I sat down this morning to list out all of the data questions floating around in my brain right now. Thoughts on answers welcome, but I’m mostly interested in generating more questions. What’s on your brain?

Note: Thread
is the analytics engineer a job description or a set of functional responsibilities? (View Tweet)
will most/all enterprises shift to doing analytics engineering (as conceived by the modern data community) or are there organizational reasons that will prevent this? (View Tweet)
what does effective self-service look like? (View Tweet)
what percentage of analytical work will happen in self-service vs. mediated expertise models? (View Tweet)
is the advent of GPT-3 a signal that we should be taking “conversational” interfaces more seriously? are conversational interfaces also fundamentally unlocked via dbt? (View Tweet)
will data analysts formalize as a career path with clear skill requirements, training, leveling, compensation, etc? (View Tweet)
will data roles become more generalist / full-stack as the ecosystem evolves? if so, is this purely driven by tool evolution or is it that we have nascent human capital currently? or other? (View Tweet)
Note: Can’t this be both? Tool evolution and nascent human capital? What’s a good mechanized labor example? It wouldn’t have been possible for an individual to do X on their own without Y and Z tooling first.
will spreadsheets join the MDS party? what would that look like? (View Tweet)
are there fundamental architectural shifts on the horizon that would change the current technology paradigm we’re operating in? (cloud data warehouse that abstracts away compute and storage while providing 1>N language APIs) (View Tweet)
“data apps” have not been as big of a trend as anticipated for years now. is there an unlock that could happen (technology or PMF) or is this just not as big as once thought? (View Tweet)
how big of a trend is operational analytics? said another way, will it drive 1/25/50/90% of snowflake compute? (View Tweet)
will analytics engineering skillsets propagate into operational roles? i.e. if someone needs to build a feature in bq to push to salesforce using census/hightouch, will they be able to do it themselves or will they need to file a ticket with the data team? (View Tweet)
how / when / will future of work tools (notion/slack/loom/etc) integrate more directly with the modern data stack? these two trends are intimately connected…they change how organizational knowledge is created and propagated. (View Tweet)
