Snowflake Intelligence or Snowflake CoWork: Which Name to Use With Clients in H2 2026
The question
"Post-rename, is 'Snowflake Intelligence' being fully retired or kept as a doc alias vs 'CoWork'? Confirm which name Snowflake SEs and RFPs will standardize on for H2 2026 so the DSA uses the client-current term."
Context: this is a naming question for phData discovery conversations. The earlier briefs already settle what the product is and which parts are GA. This brief covers only the name.
Headline: Snowflake has retired "Snowflake Intelligence" as the product name. It is not a documented alias. Every current Snowflake doc, billing and pricing page, and account-usage page we checked says "Snowflake CoWork". The old doc URL for the usage-history view now returns a permanent redirect (HTTP 308) to the CoWork page. The old name still appears in a few places: the SQL object and command names (the "Snowflake Intelligence Object", ALTER SNOWFLAKE INTELLIGENCE), the iOS App Store listing, one architecture-diagram alt text, and third-party content. Use this rule: say "Snowflake CoWork", recognize "Snowflake Intelligence", and type whatever the client's account actually shows.
What we already know (from the vault)
- Snowflake announced the rename Snowflake Intelligence → Snowflake CoWork at Summit 2026, alongside Cortex Code → CoCo. That brief expected mixed naming through 2026 and recommended saying "Snowflake Intelligence, now CoWork." [[2026-07-07-snowflake-intelligence-vs-cortex-ai-boundary]]
- The GA/preview matrix already writes "CoWork core agent (formerly Snowflake Intelligence)" and dates the core agent's GA to 2025-11-04, under the old name. This brief does not re-derive GA status. [[2026-09-14-snowflake-cowork-cortex-ga-vs-preview-matrix]]
- The skill-publish brief describes the admin step as adding an agent to "the Snowflake Intelligence Object so it appears in CoWork". That confirms the old name survives as an object name even though the product name has changed. [[2026-07-08-cortex-agent-cowork-skill-native-publish]]
- The vault has already flagged the naming trap twice. The "Cowork" in phData's internal architecture is Anthropic's Claude Cowork, the desktop agent surface phData's sales seats use. It is not Snowflake CoWork. [[2026-07-08-cortex-agent-cowork-skill-native-publish]], [[2026-09-13-cortex-code-client-deployable-surface-p3-p4]], [[2026-06-15-caf-architecture-decisions-and-meta-council]]
- The Pupius audit uses "Snowflake CoWork (formerly Snowflake Intelligence)" as its standard house form. [[2026-09-12-pupius-four-axis-snowflake-data-ai-strategy]]
What the web says
- Rename date and wording. Snowflake made the rename on June 2, 2026, with the Summit press release "Snowflake CoWork Powers the Agentic Enterprise..." Search summaries of Snowflake's own material describe it as "Snowflake Intelligence is now Snowflake CoWork, with the name evolving alongside the product", which widened the product from conversational analytics to a personal work agent. We saw that sentence only in search-result summaries and did not re-fetch the press release this run. (press release; Snowflake CoWork blog)
- Why "CoWork". CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy said Snowflake adopted "CoCo", the community's nickname for Cortex Code, and then needed a matching name for Snowflake Intelligence. French trade press notes that the naming is "clearly modeled" on Anthropic's Claude Code and Claude Cowork. (Usine Digitale; ITdaily)
- The main docs page uses the new name throughout. "Overview of Snowflake CoWork" has no rename note, no alias statement and no deprecation statement. The only old-name traces are an architecture-diagram alt text built from an unresolved template variable (
%sf-intelligence%) and a link to the iOS app, which the App Store still lists as "Snowflake Intelligence". (Overview of Snowflake CoWork, fetched 2026-09-15) - Billing and pricing use only the new name. The Snowflake AI pricing page lists the billing line as "Snowflake CoWork" (AI Credit) and never mentions "Snowflake Intelligence". Procurement and RFP reviewers read this surface, which is the strongest primary-source signal of the name Snowflake will use in commercial documents. (Snowflake AI pricing, fetched 2026-09-15)
- Account-usage docs moved, and the old URL redirects.
.../snowflake_intelligence_usage_history_viewreturns HTTP 308 (permanent redirect) to.../snowflake_cowork_usage_history_view. That page describesSNOWFLAKE_COWORK_USAGE_HISTORYin CoWork terms only and has no deprecation or alias note. Search snippets, possibly from a stale index, still show a sentence saying "The SNOWFLAKE_INTELLIGENCE_USAGE_HISTORY view can be used to query the usage history of Snowflake CoWork". We could not confirm from the docs whether the old view name still works as a SQL alias. (SNOWFLAKE_COWORK_USAGE_HISTORY; header check 2026-09-15) - The SQL command still uses the old name. Search snippets of the CoWork resource-budget docs show cost-center tags applied "to a Snowflake CoWork object using ALTER SNOWFLAKE INTELLIGENCE". The prose says CoWork, but the DDL keyword is still
SNOWFLAKE INTELLIGENCE. This comes from a search snippet only; we did not fetch the page. (Resource budgets for Snowflake CoWork) - Field and partner content. Partner and analyst write-ups after Summit use "CoWork": InterWorks (2026-08-13, "Snowflake CoWork: What Is It and How Can I Use It?"), Atlan, LumenData and a Medium explainer titled "What the Rebrand of Snowflake Intelligence Actually Means". Some 2026 content still uses the old name as the headline term, for example Flexera's "Snowflake Intelligence 101: A Complete Overview (2026)". (InterWorks; Atlan; LumenData; Medium, Pfäffle; Flexera)
Convergences and contradictions
- Convergence. The vault predicted mixed naming through 2026, and the web confirms it, but the mix sits in specific layers. Snowflake's marketing, docs, pricing and billing layer has switched completely to CoWork. The old name survives in the engineering layer (DDL keywords, object names, the iOS app listing) and in third-party content that has not been updated.
- Sharpening. The 2026-07-07 brief's advice ("Snowflake Intelligence, now CoWork") is now slightly backward. Three months after the rename, CoWork should lead and the old name should appear only as the parenthetical: "Snowflake CoWork (formerly Snowflake Intelligence)".
- Gap, not contradiction. We found no direct evidence of what Snowflake SE decks, Partner Network enablement or RFP templates say. Those sit behind partner logins. The H2 2026 standard is therefore inferred from the pricing page, billing line and docs, not observed in field collateral. See Caveats in Synthesis.
Synthesis for RDCO
The answer: retired as a brand, still present as residue in the product. Snowflake has not kept "Snowflake Intelligence" as a documented alias. No docs page calls it an alias, and the old URLs redirect instead of carrying both names. Snowflake has also not finished removing it from the product. The name remains wherever renaming would break customer code or needs a separate release process: the SNOWFLAKE INTELLIGENCE DDL keyword, the "Snowflake Intelligence Object" that agents are added to, and possibly the legacy account-usage view name. It also remains on the iOS App Store listing. This pattern is what you get when a marketing rename moves faster than the SQL surface. Renaming DDL keywords usually needs a behavior-change bundle and a deprecation window, and we found none announced. Expect the old name in SQL through H2 2026 even as it disappears from everything else.
What Snowflake SEs and RFPs will use in H2 2026: "Snowflake CoWork", with medium-high confidence. The pricing page and billing line say only "Snowflake CoWork". RFP answers and order forms are drafted from those documents, so a client's procurement team will see CoWork on invoices and in consumption reporting. The confidence is below "high" only because we could not see Snowflake's internal SE or partner-portal collateral directly. Clients will still bring the old name. Anyone who piloted the product in its first seven months under the old name, from GA on 2025-11-04 to the rename on 2026-06-02, has internal documents, tickets and budget lines that say "Snowflake Intelligence". Older RFPs copied from those documents will too.
The usage rule for the DSA:
- Say "Snowflake CoWork", or "CoWork" once the context is clear. In any written client deliverable (SOW, architecture doc, proposal), use "Snowflake CoWork (formerly Snowflake Intelligence)" on first mention and "CoWork" after that. The parenthetical lets someone searching an older internal document match the two names.
- Recognize "Snowflake Intelligence", "SI", "ai.snowflake.com" and the iOS app as the same product. When a client says "we want Snowflake Intelligence", answer "that's CoWork now, same product" and move on. Don't correct them twice.
- Type the literal names in anything executable or admin-facing (runbooks, grants, tagging, cost monitoring). Use exactly what the client's account accepts, such as
ALTER SNOWFLAKE INTELLIGENCE ...and the Snowflake Intelligence Object, even if the surrounding prose says CoWork. Before a runbook ships, check in the client's account which usage-history view name is valid. Don't assumeSNOWFLAKE_INTELLIGENCE_USAGE_HISTORYstill works. - Never write bare "Cowork" in anything that crosses phData's internal and client boundary. Anthropic's Claude Cowork is a different product: a desktop agent from a different vendor, and the surface phData's own sales seats use. Both products have "skills" and admin-published capabilities, so confusing them can mislead both the client and the internal team. Always write out the vendor: "Snowflake CoWork" or "Claude Cowork". Note the spelling too: Snowflake uses a capital W ("CoWork"), Anthropic does not ("Cowork").
Why this is in the vault
It gives the phData DSA/TAL role a dated, source-cited naming rule for discovery calls, SOWs and RFP responses. It also updates the 2026-07-07 brief's "Snowflake Intelligence, now CoWork" advice to CoWork-first, now that billing and docs have fully switched.
Open follow-ups
- Is
SNOWFLAKE_INTELLIGENCE_USAGE_HISTORYstill queryable as an ACCOUNT_USAGE alias, and does any Snowflake behavior-change bundle schedule the retirement of theSNOWFLAKE INTELLIGENCEDDL keyword or object name? - Which name does the Snowflake Service Consumption Table (the contract-referenced billing PDF) use for this line item, and in which revision did the name change?
- Have Snowflake's public Partner Network or Marketplace listings and the iOS App Store listing moved to "CoWork", and when?
