Can Squarely Start Building A+ Content Now Without Waiting on the Trademark?

The question

Does KDP-originated partial Brand Registry (the A+ skeleton already present on the three Squarely books) provide any A+ Content access today without waiting on the trademark, and if so, should A+ build start now in parallel? Context: Squarely is an active RDCO bet — a puzzle product with three KDP paperbacks live (B0CD91ZLCY / B0DJ5SZRYN / B0FYNPYM1Z), each carrying an empty #aplusBrandStory_feature_div skeleton, and the growth plan has treated trademark → Brand Registry as the gate to A+ Content.

Synthesis for RDCO

Yes — A+ Content build can and should start now, in full, without waiting on the trademark. The premise that trademark → Brand Registry gates Squarely's A+ Content is a category error. Squarely's books live on Amazon KDP (self-publishing), and KDP exposes its own A+ Content Manager (KDP dashboard → Marketing → A+ Content) to any account with a live book — no Brand Registry enrollment, no registered or pending trademark required. This has been the case since roughly 2021. The trademark/Brand Registry dependency that the [[growth-strategy]] and earlier reviews carried forward is real only for the Seller Central / Vendor A+ path (selling books as third-party products), which is not the path Squarely is on. The empty #aplusBrandStory_feature_div skeleton the [[2026-04-25-squarely-current-state-review]] spotted is simply the default A+ container Amazon renders for all KDP titles; reading it as "partial Brand Registry" overstated it, but the practical conclusion is even better than that read implied — the unlock isn't partial, it's full, and it's already sitting there unused.

The concrete access level today: Basic A+ Content, up to 5 modules per project, applied per ASIN (with the Brand Story module set once at brand level and propagating to all volumes). That is enough to ship the entire planned module sequence in [[2026-06-11-amazon-a-plus-content-draft]] essentially as-drafted — Brand Story + How-Squarely-Works feature panels + volume comparison chart + "Why Squarely" text panel — though the team will need to fit within the 5-module ceiling (the draft's sequence is right at that line, so trim or merge the feature panels into a single multi-panel module to stay under 5). Image production must conform to the KDP rules (jpg/png RGB, <2 MB, ≥72 dpi, no GIFs, alt-text, no pricing/CTA language, ≤4 quotes), and content typically goes live within ~8 business days of submission.

The only thing the trademark would additionally buy on the A+ front is Premium A+ (7 modules, richer formats) — and Premium is gated not just on Brand Registry but on a track record (5 approved A+ projects in 12 months + Brand Story published catalog-wide). That is a later-stage optimization, not a launch blocker. So the trademark work (per [[2026-06-13-squarely-uspto-trademark-filing-strategy]]) and the A+ build are fully parallelizable: build and ship Basic A+ now for the immediate listing-conversion lift; pursue the word-mark filing on its own timeline for brand protection and eventual Premium A+ / Brand-Registry-only tooling. There is no reason to hold A+ for the trademark.

Recommendation: Greenlight the A+ build immediately. Move [[2026-06-11-amazon-a-plus-content-draft]] out of "needs review" by getting founder + John sign-off and commissioning the two minimum images (1 lifestyle photo + 1 grid illustration), then publish Basic A+ on Volume 3 first (the designated entry-point volume), replicate to V1/V2, and add the missing feature bullets in the same session. Treat the trademark as a separate, non-blocking workstream. Net: the single highest-leverage unused asset on the load-bearing growth surface is available for free, today, with no IP prerequisite.
