Why this is in the vault
Friday "Weekly Dose of Optimism" #212: five hard-tech/biotech curation items (Vironexis liver-based cancer gene therapy, Solcoa rare-earth metallization, Terraform sunlight-to-methanol, Joby's autonomous transcontinental flight, Meta's VR Glasses) — kept mainly to resolve the standing sponsor-pattern question (does Reducto recur a 4th time?) rather than for strong RDCO content mapping.
Mapping against Ray Data Co
This issue does not cross RDCO's relevance threshold in any concrete way — it's pure hard-tech, biotech, materials, and aviation curation with no AI-agent-economy or data-tooling angle. The closest (still weak) tangential touchpoint is the Meta item's mention that Muse, Meta's AI assistant, now has voice and video, which brushes against the "AI assistant as product surface" trend RDCO tracks generally — but RDCO isn't in consumer AR/assistant hardware, so this isn't a real connection, just the least-distant one. Weak mapping is the honest and expected read for a pure curation issue like this one; nothing here changes RDCO's roadmap or thesis.
Sponsorship
Sponsor pattern resolved: Reducto's streak breaks at #212. #212 is sponsored by Jack & Jill (a recruiting-matchmaking pair — Jack matches professionals to their next role, Jill matches startups to hires), not Reducto. This ends the 3-consecutive-issue run (#209 2026-09-04, #210 2026-09-11, #211 2026-09-18) documented in the prior note. Disclosure is a clean sponsor block up front with no investor relationship claimed — a standard ad placement, not a portfolio-company feature. Treat WDoO sponsorship as rotating going forward rather than assuming Reducto by default; re-check each future issue rather than carrying the prior pattern forward.
Portfolio-disclosure check on the five curated items: none of the five blurbs (Vironexis, Solcoa, Terraform, Joby, Meta) contain inline investor-disclosure language, unlike #211's clean "Not Boring Capital has been an investor since 2022" on Thatch. A quick web search turned up no public record of Not Boring Capital holding a stake in Vironexis, Solcoa, Terraform, or Joby — treat this issue as clean curation with no disclosed conflict, though absence of a public record isn't proof of absence for a private fund's cap table.
No guest-author or sister-publication cross-promo this issue — all five items are in Packy's own voice.
Curation section
- Vironexis (item 1): AAV gene therapy (VNX-101) turns liver cells into in-body factories producing a bispecific protein that bridges T cells to CD19+ leukemia cells; all 3 evaluable relapsed/refractory ALL patients in a small subgroup had complete responses. Early, company-reported, n=3.
- Solcoa (item 2): raised $75M ($45M equity led by Bain Capital Ventures, $30M debt/equipment anchored by J.P. Morgan) to build a Nevada rare-earth metallization plant, scaling from ~10 to 500 tonnes/year by mid-2027 — part of a forming domestic rare-earth supply chain alongside Earth AI, Vulcan Elements, and Westmag.
- Terraform (item 3): produced high-purity methanol from sunlight and air at its Muroc, CA test site, seven weeks after first producing hydrogen there — next molecule in Casey Handmer's sunlight-to-chemicals roadmap.
- Joby (item 4): flew a converted Cessna Caravan (J208) 3,199 miles across the US fully autonomously, zero pilot control inputs, ending near Kitty Hawk — a systems test, not the eVTOL air-taxi product itself.
- Meta (item 5): Meta Connect announcements — Muse AI assistant gets voice/video, FDA-approved hearing-aid glasses, and the headline Meta VR Glasses (100g headset, 5K micro-OLED, ~$1,300, spring 2027).
- Extra Doses (linked, not detailed in body): Science Breakthroughs, Rainmaker, Precision Neuro, and a callback to the HAA piece.
