Why this is in the vault
Issue #208 of the standing Friday optimism series — kept for item 4, Anthropic's Model Hardware Standard (MHS) research preview, which the vault already tracks from the primary source filed the same day; this note captures the curation-layer framing (Ruxandra Teslo's "let humans do science" read, David Hansen's manufacturing-adoption angle) that the primary note doesn't carry.
Curation section
- FDA approves Revolution Medicines' Rasonque for metastatic pancreatic cancer. Targets the RAS-protein mutation driving the disease; late-stage trial showed ~13-month median survival vs. ~6.7 months on chemo alone. Approved ~6.5 months faster than standard PDUFA timeline via Breakthrough Therapy/Priority Review/National Priority Voucher pathway. No RDCO relevance; humanitarian/science-progress framing only.
- Airbound raises $37M, publishes manifesto. Packy discloses upfront: "Last year, I invested in a company called Airbound" — clean, self-initiated disclosure, no verification gap. Drone-delivery/physical-logistics company; founder self-taught physics/engineering from YouTube. No RDCO mapping beyond the general optimism throughline.
- Radiant and Antares Nuclear selected for US Army's $2.2B Janus microreactor program. Radiant gets $750M for 15 Kaleidos microreactors; Antares' contract "on the order of $1B and growing." Not Boring Capital portfolio company Standard Nuclear is explicitly disclosed as TRISO fuel supplier to both winners through 2035 — the one clean, named portfolio tie in this item. Radiant and Antares themselves are called "friends," not disclosed investments. Verification (WebSearch, 2026-08-28): could not confirm Not Boring Capital as a named investor in Radiant's public funding history (Series A investors: Union Square Ventures, Decisive Point, DCVC, Tamarack Global, Cantos Ventures, Nucleation Capital) or in Antares' recently reported $470M round (led by Paradigm/Caffeinated Capital). Treat Packy as messenger, not disclosed investor, for Radiant/Antares specifically — the disclosed relationship is Standard Nuclear only.
- Anthropic previews Model Hardware Standard (MHS). Lets AI agents coordinate lab/manufacturing instruments (microscopes, liquid handlers, robotic arms) in parallel via a model-agnostic, MCP-compatible interface — cuts hardware integration from days/weeks to hours/minutes per Anthropic's own framing. Packy links two outside takes rather than adding original analysis: Ruxandra Teslo (automating the boring parts of lab work so humans do the actual science) and David Hansen (what manufacturing teams are already doing with Claude/Codex). Already filed same-day from the primary source at [[2026-08-28-anthropic-model-hardware-standard]] — this curation entry adds the two named-commentator framings, not new facts.
- Hugging Face's Pollen Robotics ships Microduck, a $399 RL-trainable robot — same week as rumors (not confirmed in this issue) of a $12.9B Nvidia acquisition of Hugging Face. Out-of-the-box behaviors (walk, sit, roller-skate, self-recover) plus user-trainable RL. Novelty/consumer-robotics item; no direct RDCO mapping.
- (3a) Actinide becomes first startup to enrich uranium to HALEU, the fuel used in TRISO pellets for advanced reactors (including the Janus-program reactors in item 3), using a Texas-built particle accelerator that was producing cancer-therapy isotopes the month before. Connects the nuclear-supply-chain thread across items 3 and 3a but doesn't independently cross the RDCO bar.
No links were deep-fetched from the issue itself (the two research items pursued — MHS and the Radiant/Antares portfolio check — were done via WebSearch verification against the primary Anthropic source and public funding records, not by following the newsletter's own links). Zero of the issue's own external links were deep-fetched.
⚠️ Sponsorship
Explicit paid sponsor block, top of issue: Create (creatine supplement brand, "Lemonade Collection"), with a reader discount code (notboring50). Clean, disclosed, unrelated to RDCO's domain — no bias implication for the substantive items. Separately, item 3's Standard Nuclear tie is a disclosed Not Boring Capital portfolio relationship (not a paid sponsorship) — flagged for bias awareness on the nuclear-supply-chain framing, not as an ad.
Mapping against Ray Data Co
The concrete connection is item 4: MHS is explicitly MCP-compatible ("AI agents access it through standard protocols such as the Model Context Protocol"), which is the same interoperability layer RDCO's harness-engineering thesis already treats as the load-bearing abstraction for agent-to-tool connections — this is Anthropic extending that abstraction from software tools to physical lab/manufacturing hardware, not a new pattern. The two curated commentary threads (Teslo: automation frees humans for higher-order science; Hansen: manufacturing teams already using Claude/Codex day-to-day) are useful color on adoption but add no new RDCO-specific signal beyond what [[2026-08-28-anthropic-model-hardware-standard]] already captures from the primary source. The nuclear items (3, 3a) are pattern-continuation of the series' recurring energy-optimism throughline and don't independently cross the mapping bar.
