Video Production Template — Frameworks Worth Keeping

Extracted from Ali Abdaal’s YouTube production template. The Ali-specific branding is stripped — what remains are reusable frameworks applicable to any content production.

7-Step Storytelling Framework

Every piece of content can be structured as a story:

  1. Who is the character?
  2. What do they want?
  3. Why can’t they get what they want?
  4. What are the stakes? (What happens if they don’t get it?)
  5. Who or what helps them?
  6. How do they get what they want?
  7. How are they transformed by this experience?

This maps to the CopyThat hero’s journey pattern and the creativity faucet — story structure is the pipe through which ideas flow.

HIVEs Framework (Content Structure)

  1. Hook — first 15 seconds reinforces the value promised in the title. No extended intros. Launch straight into delivering value.
  2. Intro — brief context (who you are, what this covers). One sentence max.
  3. Value — the meat. Deliver on the promise.
  4. End Screen — keep them in the ecosystem. Point to related content.

Applicable to: newsletter issues, YouTube videos, LinkedIn posts, podcast episodes. The hook discipline is the most transferable — Nicolas Cole calls this “not burying the lede.”

Content Remix Workflow

One piece of content → multiple formats, staggered over days:

DayPlatformFormat
Day 0Primary (YouTube/Newsletter)Full piece
Day 1Twitter/XThread of key points, final tweet = link
Day 2InstagramCarousel based on thread text
Day 2LinkedInPost based on thread (link in comment, not post)
LaterBlogNative post with embedded primary content

This is the casual contact viral loop applied to content distribution. Each format reaches a different audience slice. For Sanity Check, the remix would be: newsletter → LinkedIn post → Twitter thread → Data Dots concept cards.
