Zero build. The founder prints, hands over, texts, and tallies; Ray files. Nothing on the site changes, nothing is tracked on a child-facing surface, and only the founder sends messages ([[2026-08-31-studio-charter|charter]] growth line).
1. The test in five lines
- Hypothesis: a household other than ours prints a second playset on its own. Today this rests on n=1 (Michelle).
- Hand over: one printed 7-page playset (page 1 is the parent overview) plus the URL https://scribble-works.pages.dev, in person.
- The one ask: "text me a photo of a finished page." That is the loop-1 upload flow by hand.
- Measurement: a second playset printed within 7 days of hand-off, unasked. Evidence = a photo of a page we did not hand them, or a yes at the day-7 question.
- Pass bar: 2 of 4 reprint. Pass: age-honest bands (target 4) and the print-this-one path (target 9) jump the queue. 1 of 4: hold at the paper fixes (targets 5, 6), rerun with four new households. 0 of 4: item 23 (engine, credits) stays deferred; next round is game quality only. Our own household reprinting is expected; a pass that needs it is weak, say so in the tally.
2. Playset per household
Bands are the meta.yaml bands.
A. Our kid (3). Color the Dino (3-4), Bunny's Snack (3-4), Trace the Shapes (3-4), Dot to Dot (3-4), Who Eats What? (3-4), Count Your School Supplies (3-4, stretch 5-6). No weak slots; this is the deep band.
B. Sister (about 4 and 7). First Sounds (3-4, stretch 5-6), Big, Bigger, Biggest (3-4, stretch 5-6), Finish the Leaf Pattern (5-6, stretch 3-4), Build the Word (5-6), Treasure Boxes (7-8), Snack Shop Sums (7-8). Weak: the 7-year-old gets two pages and the siblings get nothing shared. If the ages are off, swap Build the Word for Word and Picture (5-6) or Trace: A B C (3-4).
C. Teacher (grade unknown). Build the Word (5-6), Word and Picture (5-6), Finish the Leaf Pattern (5-6), First Sounds (3-4, stretch 5-6), Count Your School Supplies (3-4, stretch 5-6), Dot to Dot (3-4, low ink). A K-1 guess with low-ink pages for copying. Weak: every slot until she names the grade; the message asks. Grade 2 or above: hand her set D.
D. Neighbor (10-year-old or classroom). Treasure Boxes (7-8, stretch 9-10), Snack Shop Sums (7-8, stretch 9-10), Who Eats What? (3-4, science hook), Big, Bigger, Biggest (3-4, stretch 5-6), Finish the Leaf Pattern (5-6), Construye la palabra (5-6, Spanish novelty). Weak: slots 3-6 are the catalog ceiling and a 10-year-old will call them babyish. Record that verbatim; it is the ages 7-10 lane evidence. Only the two new games are a real test here.
3. The iMessage, per household
Send after the paper is in their hands.
A (Michelle): "Same deal as before. When she finishes a page, snap it and text it to me. If you print another set this week, tell me which one."
B (sister): "Printed a set of the kids' games for you, six pages plus a cheat sheet on the front. Try them on a slow afternoon. One favor: text me a photo of a finished page, any page. scribble-works.pages.dev has more."
C (teacher): "Brought you six printable games I've been making. No idea if they fit your grade, so tell me what you teach and I'll fix the mix. If any page gets used, text me a photo of a finished one? The rest are at scribble-works.pages.dev."
D (neighbor): "Two of these are new and made for older kids, the dots-and-boxes one and the snack shop one. The rest are probably too young, honest opinion welcome. If [kid] finishes one, text me a photo. scribble-works.pages.dev."
Day 7, all four: "Quick one: did you end up printing another set this week?"
Nothing about plans, pricing, or what comes next. If asked: "no idea yet, that is why I'm asking."
4. Tally
| Household | Day handed | First print (given) | Photo received | Second print | Second print date | Verbatim comment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A. Ours | yes | |||||
| B. Sister | yes | |||||
| C. Teacher | yes | |||||
| D. Neighbor | yes |
"Second print" is yes if it happened before the day-7 question or the answer is yes.
5. What Ray does with the photos
- Copy each photo via
imessage-attach-copy.shinto01-projects/printables-product/cohort-week1/<household>/as loop-1 evidence. Crop to the page; if a face is in frame, keep only the crop and delete the original. No child's face is stored. - Read every margin mark as a critic finding. One line per game in
cohort-week1/findings.md: slug, household, what the mark says, what it implies. - Update the tally here; one line of studio state in the morning brief. No counter, that is target 2.
6. Three ways the test lies
- He nudged them. Any "did you try it yet" before day 7 turns a reprint into a favor. Read: that household is prompted; it supplies findings, not a reprint.
- Family politeness. A photo proves a page was finished, not wanted. Read: weight the photo low, the reprint high; a reprint costs paper and a browser tab, and nobody does that to be nice.
- No printer at home. Read: ask at hand-off, quietly. That household drops to findings-only and the bar becomes 2 of 3.
Whatever the count, the verbatim comments enter the game-quality queue first.
