Kwik Trip hiring corpus — tech-signal read (for Mon 7/13 intro)

Method + limitations

Shape of the corpus (computed counts)

Category n %
Retail Coworker / Retail Management / Food Service (store-facing) 1,679 93.8%
Transportation (29) + Food Mfg (18) + Constr/Maint (12) + Warehouse (7) 66 3.7%
Internships (all 24 = Retail Management Intern) 24 1.3%
Corporate (12) + Information Technology (9) 21 1.2%

This is a store-staffing machine funding 30+ new stores/year. Corporate hiring is a trickle; the tech tail is small enough to list exhaustively.

Every IT posting (9 — all La Crosse, WI)

Every Corporate posting (12)

Corporate Accountant (Onalaska); Payroll Tax & Compliance Analyst ("over 39,000 coworkers"); Real Estate Attorney; Remote Sr Real Estate Manager IL/IN; Site Development Manager; Store Engineering Project Manager; Administrative Specialist (teaser actually describes a Store Engineering Development Coordinator — listing-data mismatch); Sr Director of Food Protection; Laboratory Technician (Food Protection); Digital Marketing Intern (the only digital/marketing role in 1,790); 2x Custodian. Zero data, analytics, or product roles.

Tech-term scan (titles + teasers, word-boundary, all 1,790)

Real hits: SAP / S/4HANA (1) · ServiceNow (1) · DevOps + agile + cloud-native (1, IT Dev Team Mgr) · Microsoft Teams (1) · disaster recovery/data protection (1) · cybersecurity (1) · network — 1 real (Network Eng Mgr; 21 other "network" hits are interns' "professional network").

Zero hits (0 of 1,790): SQL, Snowflake, Databricks, Spark, Python, Java, .NET, AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle, Workday, Power BI, Tableau, "data engineer", "data scientist", analytics, BI, ETL/ELT, data warehouse, ML/AI, CDC, Airflow, Kafka, dbt, ERP (as a word), POS, e-commerce, supply chain, forecast, loyalty.

Re-verification: "zero data-analytics titles"

Confirmed, and stronger than the prep note's version. The earlier finding was titles-from-sitemap-slugs only; this pass scanned all 1,790 titles AND teasers for the full term list above, plus a title regex (data|analy|scien|BI|intelligence|insight|machine|AI). Only "analyst" titles anywhere: Transportation Logistics Analyst (route/dispatch ops), Payroll Tax & Compliance Analyst, SAP Business Integrations Support Analyst. None are data-platform roles. Caveat: teaser-only text — but a company hiring a data engineer names it in the title, and none of 1,790 titles do.

Implication: the ~12-person Data Services team (prep note, Databricks DAIS 2024) is not scaling through external hiring while the company adds ~30 stores/yr and just bolted AI loyalty on via a vendor. Three live hypotheses to test Monday: (a) capacity is capped and demand is absorbed by vendors/partners — the phData wedge; (b) hiring happens off-portal (internal transfers, recruiters, LinkedIn-direct) for senior data roles; (c) demand is genuinely flat because the platform build finished. (a) and (b) are both good for us; (c) would contradict the Eagle Eye reverse-data-flow and Snowflake-migration signals.

Org-shape inference (labeled, with evidence line)

Monday discovery probes (ranked; evidence line each)

  1. SAP → lakehouse plumbing. "You're running S/4HANA (your Business Integrations posting) and Databricks — how does SAP data get to the platform today, and what breaks?" (07-07 SAP posting + prep-note CDC/Airflow LinkedIn signal.) Highest-value: new evidence, classic phData scope, pain is near-universal.
  2. Capacity model of the 12-person team. "Zero external data hiring across 1,790 open roles while stores grow 30+/yr — is Data Services' backlog managed by saying no, by contractors, or by vendors?" (This corpus + prep-note DAIS thread.) Directly sizes the services opportunity.
  3. Snowflake + Databricks split. Prep-note Q2 stands; add from corpus: no cloud is named anywhere (zero AWS/Azure/GCP hits), so ask which cloud the platform standardizes on and whether the (uncorroborated) Snowflake migration is consolidation or addition.
  4. Eagle Eye reverse data flow. Prep-note Q3 stands; corpus adds: no loyalty/e-comm/product hiring means nobody new was hired to own the customer-360 — so who absorbed it? (0 loyalty/e-commerce hits; Eagle Eye deal 2026-05.)
  5. Data governance under the new security push. "You're hiring a Director of InfoSec and a recovery engineer — where does data-platform governance (access, lineage, DR for the lakehouse) sit in that program?" (4/9 IT reqs security/resilience.) Opens Snowflake governance/Horizon or UC territory.
  6. Workforce/demand forecasting at store scale. 1,679 store-facing reqs is itself a forecasting problem — does the hourly food-sales forecast (DAIS 2024) feed labor scheduling, or is that untapped? (93.8% store-facing share + prep-note forecasting thread.)
  7. Cloud-native dev direction. The IT Dev Team Manager req ("DevOps, cloud-native") is the one build-side hire — ask what those two agile teams own; if it's store/retail systems, integration with the data platform is the seam. (06-30 posting.)
