Round 10 / Part Q — Slicer A synthesis

Headlines

VIZ-CHANGES

Only CONFIRMED/PROBABLE tier; no new ahn-numbered people qualify this round (Alice Harris explicitly rejected; James Morgan Jr / Perminter / Roger Pemberton are collateral relatives without ahn slots, per the tree's existing convention of enriching the direct ancestor's bio rather than minting new person pages for undated collaterals).

  1. ahn 414 (James Morgan Sr.) — UPDATE_STORY — field: bio (add a Round-10 paragraph). New value:

"ROUND 10 (2026-07-27): Rev. James Morgan Jr.'s full sworn pension declaration (S7251, filed 20 Oct 1834, Yancey County NC) was recovered verbatim via revwarapps.org (Will Graves transcription). Verbatim: 'And says from the best information he can get he was born in Baltimore County in the State of Maryland on the 26th day of April 1760 -- that his parents brought him to North Carolina where he was raised.' The declaration does NOT name his father. Separately, the Randolph County Public Library's 'Revolutionary Patriots' roster (citing pension S7251) is independently cross-referenced by at least 7 other Randolph County pension applications, confirming this is a well-attested, non-Geni/WikiTree-derived figure distinct from the Wales-line conflation trap (WikiTree Morgan-15829). That same roster records an oath-of-allegiance year of '1779' and a death terminus 'post 18 Jan 1784' for DAR #A132519 -- both conflict with dates already on this record (oath Jan 18 1785; death 1804 per FaG) and are logged as an unresolved contradiction, not adopted."

    • Confidence: CONFIRMED (pension declaration is a direct primary-source transcription); the DAR roster cross-reference is CONFIRMED as a source but PROBABLE as an identity match.
  2. ahn 414 (James Morgan Sr.) — UPDATE_STORY — field: bio (Perminter parentage citation-trail addendum). New value:

"ROUND 10 (2026-07-27): Rev. Perminter Morgan is independently documented in John R. Logan's 1887 'Sketches, Historical and Biographical, of the Broad River and King's Mountain Baptist Associations' (organizing member 1800, Moderator 1803/1804/1809, Circular Letter author 1803/1806) -- but Logan explicitly states: 'We are not in possession of the date of his advent into the world, nor do we know the time he died' and names no parents. The duplicated web paragraph's core citation, Reamy's 'St. George's Parish Register [Harford Co, MD] 1689-1793' (1988), p.87, is a real published parish-register transcription but is not freely digitized anywhere checked this round -- it remains the single unresolved primary-record citation for the James Morgan Sr + Mary Davis parentage claim. Confidence stays PROBABLE, unchanged."

    • Confidence: CONFIRMED (Logan 1887 content, direct full-text read); PROBABLE (framing of the open citation question).
  3. ahn 11302 (Rev. Joseph Hull) — UPDATE_STORY — field: bio (Northleigh/Colyton addendum + quarantine cross-note). New value:

"ROUND 10 (2026-07-27): Northleigh, Devon's own parish registers do not survive for the 1620s-1633 window (baptisms only from 1700, marriages from 1708, burials from 1697, per GENUKI/Devon Record Office) -- a clean negative confirming no marriage/baptism entry naming wife #1 can be pulled from the original register. New lead: Joseph served as curate at Colyton, Devon under his elder brother William Hull (vicar of Colyton) immediately before Northleigh, c.1619-1621 -- Colyton's registers survive unbroken 1538-1837 (transcribed by A.J.P. Skinner, 1928, Devon & Cornwall Record Society) and are a plausible unsearched venue for the wife #1 marriage. QUARANTINE FORMALIZED: 'Joanna' / 'Joanna Coffin' as wife #1's name is explicitly rejected by Robert Charles Anderson's Great Migration Begins ('no evidence that she was named Joan, and no evidence that she was Joane Coffin') and traces to the unreliable Narragansett Historical Register Vol. I -- do not adopt without a primary record."

    • Confidence: CONFIRMED (Northleigh register non-survival, GENUKI); PROBABLE (Colyton curacy claim, secondary sources); the quarantine framing itself is CONFIRMED against Anderson's stated conclusion (via convergent WebFetch/WebSearch citation, not a directly re-read primary GMB page this round).
  4. ahn 11276 (James Williams) — UPDATE_STORY — field: bio (Pemberton Sentence addendum). New value:

"ROUND 10 (2026-07-27): TNA PROB 11/153/522, previously logged as an unread lead, is confirmed to be a 'Sentence' (Latin court judgment), dated 14 May 1628, distinct from Roger Pemberton's 1627 will (PROB 11/152/801, already matched to Waters/NEHGR in round 9). In PCC probate terminology a Sentence specifically denotes a judgment on a DISPUTED will, consistent with the ~5-month gap between the Dec 1627 will and the May 1628 Sentence -- suggesting the Pemberton probate (the will that names 'my cosen and Godsonne Roger Williams') was contested. A related, undigitized Inquisition Post Mortem, WARD 7/80/210 ('Pemberton, Roger: Hertford,' 4 Chas I / 1628-29), may be the same man (county-level match only, unconfirmed) and would typically name an heir and his age if so."

    • Confidence: CONFIRMED (TNA Discovery catalog entries, direct API fetch) for the document identifications; PROBABLE for the "disputed will" inference and the WARD 7/80/210 identity match.

NEW-PEOPLE

None this round. Alice Harris (ahn 11297 candidate) was evaluated and explicitly NOT added — new contrary primary evidence (Agnes, not Alice, named as Robert Goodspeed's wife in a 1649 Chancery pleading) plus continued inability to verify the underlying 1609 marriage-register source. James Morgan Jr, Perminter Morgan, and Roger Pemberton remain collateral relatives folded into their direct-ancestor's bio text rather than separate ahn-numbered entries, consistent with the tree's existing pattern (e.g., "Katherine Williams" logged in James Williams's bio without an ahn slot).

ESTIMATES-RETIRED

None this round. No eb/ed field on any existing ahn entry was replaced by a real date. (James Morgan Jr's newly-confirmed birth date, April 26 1760, does not retire an estimate because he is not an ahn-numbered node on the site.)

CONTRADICTIONS

  1. DAR/Randolph roster oath-date discrepancy (NOT adjudicated). The Randolph County Public Library's "Revolutionary Patriots" roster gives James Morgan Sr's (DAR #A132519) oath of allegiance as "1779," conflicting with the tree's existing "January 18, 1785" (also DAR-sourced). The roster's death clause separately reads "post 18 Jan 1784," raising the possibility the tree's 1785 date is a conflation of the two data points — but this cannot be resolved without the primary DAR application (DAR GRS was down all session) or the pension file. Do not touch the tree's existing 1785 date without further corroboration.
  2. James Morgan Sr death-date now has THREE conflicting values in the source record, none adjudicated: FaG memorial 163484558 gives Aug 6, 1804 (currently used on tree); a sibling's FaG memorial gives ~1810; and this round's Randolph library roster gives "died post 18 Jan 1784." A separate WikiTree entry (Morgan-1173) gives 1804 for death, conflicting with the same roster's 1784 terminus. Flagged, not resolved.
  3. Alice Harris hypothesis now has affirmative contrary primary evidence, not just absence of corroboration. TNA C 5/405/103 (1649) names Robert Goodspeed's wife as Agnes. This does not rule out an earlier wife named Alice (a remarriage is plausible, unconfirmed), but it shifts the balance from "unsupported claim, no counter-evidence" (round 9 status) to "unsupported claim, with one piece of counter-evidence" (round 10 status). Roger Goodspeed's mother stays formally unresolved.
  4. Perminter Morgan's birthplace remains open (carried forward from round 9, not re-resolved this round): Harford Co., MD (per the duplicated web paragraph / Reamy citation) vs. Virginia (per Mountain Creek Baptist Church's own 1955 history). Round 10 did not find new evidence either way.

FOUNDER-HANDS

  1. Order TNA PROB 11/152/801 (Roger Pemberton's actual 1627 will, digitized) — should contain the full "cosen and Godsonne Roger Williams" passage plus any other named relatives beyond Waters's 1889 excerpt. Highest-value single document order in this batch.
  2. Order TNA PROB 11/153/522 (the 1628 Sentence, digitized, Latin) — may name the party who contested Roger Pemberton's will; needs translation once obtained.
  3. Pursue TNA WARD 7/80/210 (Inquisition Post Mortem, "Pemberton, Roger: Hertford," 1628–29) — not digitized, requires an ordered copy or in-person/paid visit; would typically name the heir and his age if it's the same man.
  4. Order the TNA C 5/405/103 document image ("Jennings v Goodspeed" answer, 1649) — Chancery answers often narrate genealogical relationships that the Discovery catalog abstract omits; could directly resolve whether this Robert Goodspeed is our Robert Goodspeed and clarify the Agnes/Alice question.
  5. FamilySearch/Ancestry (login-gated): pull Robert Goodspeed's full 1658 will text (already used in round 9 to establish Roger as his son) — check whether it names a wife (Agnes? Alice? deceased/unnamed) and whether Roger is described as her son or a son by an earlier wife.
  6. Locate A.J.P. Skinner's 1928 Colyton, Devon parish register transcription (Devon & Cornwall Record Society) — not on archive.org; likely needs a library holding or HathiTrust check — search for a Hull marriage c.1618–1619 or a Joanna Hull baptism c.1619/1620.
  7. Obtain Reamy, Bill & Martha, "St. George's Parish Register [Harford County, MD] 1689–1793" (1988), p.87 — via library, FamilySearch full-text, or purchase (ISBN 9781585490585) — the single highest-value next step for the Perminter Morgan parentage question; would either upgrade or downgrade the James Morgan Sr + Mary Davis claim depending on what it actually says.
  8. Pull the full NARA/Fold3 pension file for S7251 (not just the Southern-Campaigns abstract) — Will Graves's transcription notes some standard boilerplate was omitted; the full file may include additional family-naming documents.
  9. Retry DAR GRS (services.dar.org) on a later date — this round's HTTP 503 looked like a genuine, possibly-temporary outage rather than a login gate. Also: SAR Patriot Research System (sarpatriots.sar.org) needs an interactive/browser session (JS-rendered, headless GET only returns the blank form) — both could directly test the Perminter/James Jr/Susannah children question.
  10. Randolph County NC probate/will book for "James Morgan," circa 1784–1804 — would settle both the father-son link to Perminter/James Jr/Susannah and the 1784-vs-1804-vs-1810 death-date contradiction; needs county-level probate index or FamilySearch catalog browsing.

Founder-hands hand-off note

This part file (Slicer A, 6 targets) is ready for the implementer pass. No ADD_PERSON or date-field changes are recommended this round — all four VIZ-CHANGES are bio/story enrichments at CONFIRMED/PROBABLE tier. The Alice Harris question (ahn 11297) should be treated as closed for now (do not add) unless C 5/405/103's actual document image (item 4 above) surfaces different information. The DAR oath/death-date contradictions (items 1–2 above) should be logged on the tree doc's running contradiction list, same treatment as the GW Gibby 1909/1915 pattern — not adjudicated without new primary evidence.
