Headlines

VIZ-CHANGES

All entries below are PROBABLE tier unless noted CONFIRMED; POSSIBLE-tier findings (gravestone age, Perminter's own DAR#, Honeychurch thread, almshouse paraphrase, etc.) are intentionally excluded per the round's downgrade rules and appear only in the narrative above / CONTRADICTIONS below.

  1. ADD_PERSON — ahn 11296, Robert Goodspeed. Fields: b:1578 (baptism, Wingrave, Bucks, 3 Aug 1578), d:1660 (between will 15 Sep 1658 and proof 13 Feb 1660/1 — use ed:1661 if a range field is preferred), region: other/england, trail: "Wingrave, Bucks, England". Confidence: PROBABLE (downgraded from round's CONFIRMED — verbatim parish-register quote is mediated through Moriarty's 1928 NEHGR article, a secondary compiled scholarly source, not a directly-examined register page image; same tier as existing Goodspeed-1907-sourced entries on this tree).

    • Story text: "Robert Goodspeed was baptized at Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, 3 Aug 1578, son of Robert Goodspeed (Sr.) and Isabel Allyn. Married Alice Harris at Soulbury, co. Bucks, 6 Nov 1609 (Phillimore's Bucks Parish Registers). Yeoman of Wingrave; made his will 15 Sept 1658; died between that date and 13 Feb 1660/1, when son John (executor) proved it. Father of Roger Goodspeed (ahn 5648), the emigrant ancestor who settled Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, by 1639. Per G. Andrews Moriarty, 'Goodspeed,' NEHGR vol. LXXXII (1928), pp.465-472, pedigree entry #7, quoting the Wingrave parish register verbatim: 'Robert son of Robert Goodspeed 3 August [1578].'"
    • Verbatim quote (CONFIRMED as a quote-of-quote; overall link tier PROBABLE): "1578 Robert son of Robert Goodspeed 3 August" — Wingrave parish register, per NEHGR vol. LXXXII (1928), p.465.
  2. UPDATE_PARENTS — ahn 5648 (Roger Goodspeed, existing entry). Set fa:11296. (Mother of Roger Goodspeed is separately unknown — Goodspeed 1907 explicit negative, already on the tree; do not add an ahn 11297 mother slot.)

    • Story addition: "His English father is now identified: Robert Goodspeed, bapt. 3 Aug 1578, Wingrave, Bucks (ahn 11296), will 15 Sept 1658 — per Moriarty, NEHGR 82 (1928), pp.465-472. This does not resolve Goodspeed 1907's own negative on Roger's mother or emigration circumstances, which remain explicitly unknown."
  3. ADD_PERSON — ahn 22592, Robert Goodspeed (Sr.). Fields: d:1600 (bur. 8 Nov 1600, Wingrave), region: other/england, trail: "Wingrave, Bucks, England". Confidence: PROBABLE.

    • Story text: "Married Isabel Allyn at Wingrave, 30 Oct 1552; she was buried there 9 Mar 1583/4; he was buried there 8 Nov 1600. Succeeded 24 Sept 1558 to lands of his deceased father Nicholas Goodspeed (ahn 45184); taxed 10s on £6 goods in the 1559 subsidy; Wingrave manor-court juror 1560-1582. Father of Robert Goodspeed (ahn 11296). Per Moriarty, NEHGR 82 (1928), pp.469-471, pedigree entry #6, quoting Wingrave parish/court records; independently corroborated by WikiTree Goodspeed-18's citation of the FindMyPast Buckinghamshire Marriage/Baptism Index (a separate transcription lineage)."
  4. ADD_PERSON — ahn 22593, Isabel Allyn. Fields: d:1584 (bur. 9 Mar 1583/4, Wingrave), region: other/england, trail: "Wingrave, Bucks, England". Confidence: PROBABLE.

    • Story text: "Married Robert Goodspeed (ahn 22592) at Wingrave, 30 Oct 1552. Buried Wingrave 9 Mar 1583/4. Mother of Robert Goodspeed (ahn 11296). Own parents/origin not located in any source checked this round."
  5. UPDATE_PARENTS — ahn 11296 (Robert Goodspeed). Set fa:22592, mo:22593.

  6. ADD_PERSON (optional/bonus, beyond this round's assigned target — flagging for implementer discretion) — ahn 45184, Nicholas Goodspeed. Fields: d:1558 (died between 21 Jul 1557 and 24 Sept 1558, Wingrave), region: other/england, trail: "Wingrave, Bucks, England". Confidence: PROBABLE.

    • Story text: "Father of Robert Goodspeed (Sr.) (ahn 22592). Died Wingrave, between 21 Jul 1557 and 24 Sept 1558 (land succession court roll). Taxed in Wingrave subsidies 1524/25-1546/7; manor-court juror 1538-1557. Wife's name explicitly recorded as unknown by Moriarty (NEHGR 82, p.469) — do not add a mother slot." Do not set fa on ahn 22592 unless the implementer wants this extra generation live; it is one generation beyond this round's assigned research target.
  7. UPDATE_PARENTS — ahn 22592. Set fa:45184 only if item 6 is adopted.

  8. UPDATE_STORY — ahn 414 (James Morgan Sr.). Append caveat (confidence tag stays "Probable" — this is a caveat addition, not a re-adjudication; see CONTRADICTIONS #1-2 below for the case to downgrade further in a future round):

    • "CAVEAT added 2026-07-26 (round 9): the James Morgan Sr./Mary Davis parentage claim for son Perminter rests on a single uncited prose paragraph duplicated near-verbatim across FindAGrave/Geni/WikiTree/MyHeritage — NOT independent corroboration despite appearing on multiple children's memorials (see project downgrade rule on FaG sidebar propagation). The two dedicated period biographies of Perminter Morgan (Logan 1887; Mountain Creek Baptist Church history 1955) both give detailed ministerial narratives but name NO father at all. Separately, Mountain Creek 1955 states Perminter was born in VIRGINIA (29 Aug 1755), conflicting with the Harford Co., MD birthplace stated above — unresolved, flagged not adjudicated."
  9. UPDATE_STORY — ahn 415 (Mary 'Molly' Davis Morgan). Append mirrored caveat:

    • "CAVEAT added 2026-07-26 (round 9): as with ahn 414, the sole source for this identity as Perminter Morgan's mother is the same uncited FindAGrave/Geni/WikiTree/MyHeritage paragraph, not independent per-child corroboration. Flagged for future-round downgrade review, not adjudicated this round."
  10. UPDATE_STORY — ahn 11276 (James Williams). Append:

    • "2026-07-26 (round 9): independent TNA Discovery catalog confirmation that Roger Pemberton's own will (referenced in Alice Pemberton's/Roger Pemberton's story) is PROB 11/152/801, proved 5 Dec 1627 — matches Waters/NEHGR exactly. Separately, James Williams's OWN will (already the source of 'my sons Roger and Robert Williams') also names a third child, 'Katherine Williams, daughter unto the said James Williams' — per NEHGR 43 (1889), pp.54-55, Waters quoting the will verbatim. A previously-unlogged follow-on TNA record also surfaced: 'Sentence of Roger Pemberton of Saint Albans,' PROB 11/153/522, 14 May 1628 (undigitized, content unknown — new lead only)."
    • Confidence stays PROBABLE — this is enrichment of an already-PROBABLE, Waters-argument-based identification, not a tier change.
  11. UPDATE_STORY — ahn 11302 (Rev. Joseph Hull). Append:

    • "2026-07-26 (round 9): independent corroboration of the Thomas Hull–Joseph Hull connection via a different record type than the baptism register: 1898 Exeter Diocesan Registry letter, quoted in the 1904 Hull genealogy, states Joseph Hull was instituted 4 Apr 1621 to the Rectory of Northleigh 'on the presentation of Thomas Hull, of Crewkerne, in the county of Somerset, Yeoman.' PROBABLE-tier corroboration (letter quoting a registry record, not the registry record itself); does not change the already-CONFIRMED baptism-register parent link."
  12. UPDATE_STORY — ahn 11303 (Unknown first wife of Rev. Joseph Hull). Append:

    • "CITATION FLAG added 2026-07-26 (round 9): the 'Narragansett Historical Register Vol. I p.145' citation for the POSSIBLE 'Joanna' first-wife name could not be located this round — page 145 of the only 1882 issue reaching that page number (October 1882) contains an unrelated Connecticut Pensioners/King Philip's War list, no Hull/Joanna content. Re-source or correct in a future round. Full-text search of the entire 1904 Hull genealogy (revjosephhullsom00hull) for the first wife's name also returned zero hits this round — honest negative, first wife's identity remains fully open."
  13. UPDATE_STORY — ahn 2818 (John Sayles). Append:

    • "2026-07-26 (round 9): two additional independent primary Colony/town records (distinct from Austin) further document his civic role: Providence Colony election minutes, May 1653 — 'John Sayles Providence...Assistant'; Providence town-meeting minutes, 27 Jan 1659/60 — ordered to confer with Pawtuxet men re: Indian relations, alongside Tho: Olney Sen., William Wickenden, Tho: Hopkins. Both from Narragansett Historical Register Vol. 3, read directly. Also independently re-verified (not merely re-trusted) the round-8 1702 Daniel Williams quitclaim deed cited via NHR Vol.3 pp.326-327/Providence Deeds Bk II p.173: confirms Daniel Williams's sister Mary's son was John Sayles Jr., grandson of Roger Williams — does not name John Sayles Jr.'s father and does not mention Catharine."
  14. UPDATE_STORY — ahn 2819 (Mary Williams). Append:

    • "2026-07-26 (round 9): second, independent primary anchor one generation down — a 1694 land record (Austin, SAYLES entry) states John Sayles Jr. 'had laid out to him 35 acres, which said land he had of his grandfather Mr. Roger Williams,' distinct from the round-8 1702 Daniel Williams deed. Fuller children list recovered from the same Austin entry (heavily OCR-garbled, tier PROBABLE): John Sayles Jr./II (b. 11 Jul 1652, d. 1717, m. Elizabeth); Mary Sayles (b. 6 Dec 1652 or 1654, d. 2 Oct 1712, m. John Holmes); possibly Deborah (m. Caleb Carr, per Austin's own uncertain 'may have had' framing); an unnamed daughter who married William Greene (buried alongside her parents). No child named Catharine appears in this list either — consistent with, not a resolution of, the existing open Catharine-parentage question. UNRESOLVED CAVEAT (POSSIBLE tier, not adjudicated): a secondary-compiled gravestone-inscription source gives her death as 1681 'aged 45 years,' which does not reconcile with the established Aug 1633 birth (would imply ~1636); logged, not acted on."

NEW-PEOPLE

  1. Robert Goodspeed — ahn 11296 — bapt. 3 Aug 1578, Wingrave, Bucks, England — d. between 15 Sep 1658–13 Feb 1660/1 — PROBABLE. Father of Roger Goodspeed (ahn 5648), the American Goodspeed immigrant ancestor; identified via Moriarty's 1928 NEHGR article quoting the Wingrave parish register and his own 1658 will verbatim.
  2. Robert Goodspeed (Sr.) — ahn 22592 — m. 30 Oct 1552 Wingrave — bur. 8 Nov 1600, Wingrave — PROBABLE. Father of ahn 11296; land-succession and subsidy-roll record cross-corroborated by an independent FindMyPast index transcription cited on WikiTree.
  3. Isabel Allyn — ahn 22593 — m. 30 Oct 1552 Wingrave — bur. 9 Mar 1583/4, Wingrave — PROBABLE. Mother of ahn 11296; own parentage unlocated.
  4. Nicholas Goodspeed — ahn 45184 (optional/bonus, one generation beyond this round's assigned target) — d. between 21 Jul 1557–24 Sept 1558, Wingrave — PROBABLE. Father of ahn 22592; documented via manorial court-roll succession language and 1524/25-1546/7 subsidy rolls, both quoted in Moriarty 1928. Wife's name explicitly recorded as unknown by Moriarty himself.

(No new ahn-numbered people from the Pemberton, Perminter Morgan, Sayles, or Joseph Hull targets — all five of those results either enrich already-existing ahn entries, correct a relationship-type dispatch error, or return honest negatives. Roger Pemberton himself is Alice Pemberton's brother — a collateral relative, not a direct ancestor of Ben — and per the tree's existing HOLD-list convention for Pemberton siblings, he stays doc-only with no ahn assigned.)

ESTIMATES-RETIRED

None this round. The new Goodspeed-line dates (ahn 11296/22592/22593/45184) are all attached to newly-added people with no prior ahn slot or estimate on the tree — nothing existing is being retired, only extended. No eb/ed field on any pre-existing ahn entry was replaced by a real date this round.

CONTRADICTIONS

  1. Perminter Morgan birthplace conflict (unresolved, flag only): ahn 414's existing story states Perminter was born "29 Aug 1755 St. George's Parish Harford County MD." Round 9's Mountain Creek Baptist Church history (1955), a dedicated biographical sketch, states verbatim he "was born in Virginia, August 29, 1755." Both sources are secondary/compiled; the underlying true birthplace is unresolved. Do not adjudicate without a primary Maryland or Virginia parish/county record.
  2. James Morgan Sr./Mary Davis → Perminter parentage rationale weakened: the tree's existing PROBABLE tier for ahn 414/415 leans partly on "named father in FaG memorials for at least three independent children." This round found that, at least for Perminter's memorial, the supporting prose is an uncited paragraph duplicated near-verbatim across FindAGrave/Geni/WikiTree/MyHeritage — i.e., likely one uncited upstream compiler (plausibly Dawn D. Boyer 2018), not independent corroboration. This is exactly the pattern the project's own downgrade rule warns against ("FindAGrave family-members sidebar... likely all derive from the same original compiler"). DAR #A132519 independently corroborates James Morgan Sr.'s own existence/oath but says nothing about his children. Recommend a future round check whether the Elijah and Susannah FaG memorials show the SAME uncited-paragraph pattern before deciding whether to downgrade ahn 414/415 from PROBABLE to POSSIBLE. Logged, not adjudicated this round (same posture as the standing GW Gibby 1909/1915 precedent).
  3. Citation-integrity gap on the tree itself: ahn 11303's story cites "Narragansett Historical Register Vol. I p.145" (1882) for the POSSIBLE "Joanna" first-wife name. Round 9 checked both 1882 issues of Vol. I at and around p.145 and found only an unrelated Connecticut Pensioners/King Philip's War list — no Hull or Joanna content. The citation could not be verified at the stated location. Flag for correction or re-sourcing; do not remove the "Joanna" POSSIBLE tag outright without first checking whether the citation belongs to a different volume/year.
  4. Mary Williams Sayles's death age vs. birth year (POSSIBLE tier, logged not adjudicated): a secondary-compiled gravestone transcription gives "AGED 45 YEARS" at her 1681 death, implying a ~1636 birth, which conflicts with the tree's established Aug 1633 birth (would make her ~47-48 at death). Neither figure was independently examined as a primary photo this round. No viz change made.
  5. Naming-convention risk flagged by the round itself (process note, not a tree error): secondary compiled trees (WikiTree/Geni) style Mary Williams's husband himself as "John Sayles Jr." while Austin's RI-record-based genealogy — and this tree's ahn 2818 — correctly styles the immigrant husband "John Sayles, Sr." (per an explicit 1677 Grand Jury record), reserving "Jr./II" for their son (b. 1652, d. 1717). The tree's existing ahn 2818 entry already reflects the correct (Austin/RI-record) convention; this is noted only so future frontier-dispatch prompts don't get confused by the WikiTree naming and misfile research against the wrong individual.
  6. Dispatch-level relationship-type error (process note): the round 9 frontier dispatch for target r2-rev-joseph-hull asked the agent to verify "Rev. Joseph Hull is parent of the joseph-hull-first-wife research target" — he is her SPOUSE, not her parent, per the tree's own existing pages. Not a tree-content problem; flagging for whoever authors future dispatch prompts.
