Round 8 — Part File Summary, Half B
HEADLINES
Roger Williams descent (Catharine Sayles, ahn 1409): Vol. 4 path definitively REJECTED. Early Records of Providence Vol. 4 starts circa April 1672 and contains no June 1670 records. Exhaustive grep of all four volumes (Vols. 1–4) found zero father-in-law language near Sayles or Williams. Descent holds at PROBABLE on Austin 1887 secondary source only. FamilySearch microfilm 0022117 page 64 remains the one unchecked path (login-gated).
"Rev." prefix for ahn 414 James Morgan Sr. REFUTED. Title belongs to sons, not father. Rev. Perminter Morgan (b. 29 Aug 1755, ordained 1791, first pastor Mountain Creek Baptist Church) and Rev. James Morgan Jr. (pension S7251, born Baltimore County MD) are the ministers in this family. James Morgan Sr. held civic roles as Justice of the Peace and Major in the Militia. Family settled "old Rowan County (now Guilford and Randolph Counties) along the Uwharrie River" after arriving NC 1764. ANC[414] renamed from "Rev. James Morgan Sr." to "James Morgan Sr." accordingly.
Eva C. Brown marriage date CONFIRMED Oct 10 1899 Towns County GA (genealogytrails.com verbatim entry). 1900 SC census search permanently eliminated as structural dead end (she was already in GA by census date). Best POSSIBLE parental candidates identified: Robert J. Brown and Opelia Brown (Seneca Township, Oconee County SC, 1900 ED 73 and 1910 ED 129) — both SC-born, 8 children born/5 living, ages fit, but no Eva named in their records. Primary unlock remains Eva's 1938 Hall County GA death certificate via FamilySearch. (Eva C. Brown = AHN 15, not a new tree node; context update only.)
Richard Wilson (ahn 64) "born in Ireland" alternative CONFIRMED absent from primary source. 1850 Mortality Schedule (primary) clearly states Surry County NC birthplace. "Wilson Richard" on page 16 of 1800 Iredell County NC census PROBABLE per USGenWebArchives transcription but column/age data unverified (server ECONNREFUSED during search). Andrew Strain Sr. confirmed in 1790 Iredell County census (corroborating proximity). No Richard Wilson in 1790 Iredell census.
Aquilla Wilson will (Rockingham County NC c.1802) heir list now fully established from Geni (POSSIBLE tier): Richard absent from bequest list. Named sons: Jesse, Abel, John, Amos, Aquilla II; executor son William Aquilla (went to Giles County TN). Clean CONFIRMED negative — no Aquilla Wilson heir found in Haywood or Macon County NC. Aquilla-as-father hypothesis unchanged at POSSIBLE. Absher Stokes County Wills 1790–1864 identified as highest-priority undisplayed physical resource.
Thomas Hull the Younger (ahn 22604) two date corrections warranted. Alice Hull burial is specifically 20 Oct 1587 (not "bef."). Richard Hull death is "bef. 6 Jun 1559" not "bef. Oct 1559." Both corrected via the new ADD_PERSON entries (ahn 45208 and 45209). Additionally: the 1572/3 Crewkerne marriage register entry is PROBABLE primary anchor for Alice's maternity — independently confirmed by Slicer B as the definitive identification document.
VIZ-CHANGES
Only PROBABLE+ findings. All POSSIBLE-tier findings documented here only.
James Morgan Sr. (ahn 414) — Rev. prefix removal
UPDATE_STORY | 414 | CORRECTION: Remove "Rev." prefix — title belongs to sons, not
father. James Morgan Sr. (DAR A132519, WikiTree Morgan-1173)
was Justice of the Peace and Major in the Militia. Sons who
were ministers: Rev. Perminter Morgan (b. 29 Aug 1755
St. George's Parish Harford County MD, ordained 1791, first
pastor Mountain Creek Baptist Church) and Rev. James Morgan Jr.
(born Baltimore County MD per pension S7251). Family settled
"old Rowan County (now Guilford and Randolph Counties) along
the Uwharrie River" after arriving NC 1764. NOTE: second James
Morgan Sr. (WikiTree Morgan-15829, b.~1724 Glamorgan Wales,
Rowan County NC) frequently conflated with DAR A132519 in
secondary sources — distinguish before treating Hinson 2003
Morgantownship content as relevant to this line. PROBABLE per
WikiTree Morgan-1173 citing St. George's Parish Register
1689–1793 and Cecil County Land Records.
[Name field: "Rev. James Morgan Sr." → "James Morgan Sr."]
Richard Wilson (ahn 64) — Round 8 negative evidence
UPDATE_STORY | 64 | Round 8 negative evidence: "born in Ireland" alternative
confirmed absent from primary source — 1850 Macon County
Mortality Schedule (primary) states Surry County NC birthplace
unambiguously. Iredell County 1800 census: "Wilson Richard"
listed on page 16 per USGenWebArchives transcription (PROBABLE;
column/age bracket data unverified, server down during search).
Confirmed: no Richard Wilson in 1790 Iredell County census;
Andrew Strain Sr. confirmed in 1790 Iredell census with 4 males
under 10, corroborating family presence a decade prior.
Aquilla Wilson will (Rockingham County NC c.1802): Richard
absent from bequest list; no Aquilla heir found in Haywood or
Macon County NC (CONFIRMED clean negative); Aquilla-as-father
hypothesis unchanged at POSSIBLE. Archive:
populationsc18000029unit (archive.org) holds 1800 Iredell
census images; page 16 browse needed to confirm M26-45 age
bracket for Wilson Richard head.
Thomas Hull the Younger (ahn 22604) — additional primary anchor note
UPDATE_STORY | 22604 | Add PROBABLE primary anchor from Slicer B confirmation:
Crewkerne parish register (11 Jan 1572/73) verbatim entry
"Thomas Hull the sonne of Alice Hull widdow married with
Johane Peson the daughter of Richard Pesinge and Margery his
wife the xj-th daye of January" (D/P/crew, St Bartholomew
Crewkerne) — independently confirms Alice's maternity without
relying on either will; complements the Round 8 CONFIRMED
finding.
Date corrections (incorporated into ADD_PERSON entries, ahn 45208/45209)
UPDATE_DATE | 45209 | burial: 20 October 1587 — Crewkerne parish burial register
(D/P/crew); corrects imprecise "bef. 20 Oct 1587" derived from
probate date (25 Nov 1587); specific date confirmed in secondary
sources citing primary register
UPDATE_DATE | 45208 | death: bef. 6 Jun 1559 — will proved 6 Jun 1559 Archdeaconry
of Taunton; corrects imprecise "bef. Oct 1559"; will dated
10 Feb 1558/59
NEW PEOPLE
None in Slicer B beyond the three carried from Slicer A (ahn 45208, 45209, 264).
POSSIBLE-TIER — DOCUMENTED HERE, OFF VIZ
- Aquilla Wilson as father of Richard Wilson (ahn 64): POSSIBLE only — unchanged. Birth chronology of sons (Jesse c.1765, Abel 1762, William Aquilla 1770) consistent with Richard b.~1767 filling a gap; but Richard is absent from the will, no Aquilla heir appears in Haywood or Macon County NC (CONFIRMED clean negative), and Richard was born in Surry County not Rockingham.
- Robert J. Brown and Opelia Brown as parents of Eva C. Brown (ahn 15): POSSIBLE only — Oconee County SC, 1900 and 1910, ages fit, no Eva named. Off viz pending death certificate confirmation.
CONTRADICTIONS RESOLVED
- "Rev." prefix for ahn 414 James Morgan Sr. is unsupported — ministerial titles belong to sons Perminter Morgan and James Morgan Jr. Father's documented roles are Justice of Peace and Major in Militia.
- Alice Hull (ahn 45209) burial date: specific date is 20 October 1587 per Crewkerne parish burial register. "bef. 20 Oct 1587" framing was derived from probate date (25 Nov 1587), not from direct register reading.
- Richard Hull (ahn 45208) death bracket: correct bracket is "bef. 6 Jun 1559" per probate date; "bef. Oct 1559" was imprecise.
- Early Records of Providence Vol. 4 as source for June 1670 Sayles-Williams deed: REJECTED — volume content demonstrably starts circa April 1672; full djvu grep confirms zero June 1670 records and zero "father-in-law" instances anywhere near Sayles or Williams across all four volumes. Previous round suggestion that Vol. 4 held this deed was incorrect.
OPEN LEADS (next round)
- Eva C. Brown (ahn 15) — 1938 Hall County GA death certificate via FamilySearch (collection: Georgia Death Certificates 1919–1998; search: Eva Foster, b. Sept 4 1885 SC, d. Nov 2 1938 Hall County GA); single document most likely to name parents by law. FOUNDER-HANDS (login required).
- Archive.org reel populationsc18000029unit — browse BookReader to Iredell County section, locate page 16; extract column/age bracket data for "Wilson Richard": confirm M26-45 bracket (age ~33 in 1800), female entry F16-45 range (Rachel Strain b.~1773), any children under 10; also scan for "Strain" on adjacent pages. A confirmed M26-45 head would upgrade ahn 64 Iredell ID from PROBABLE to near-CONFIRMED.
- Rev. James Morgan Jr. pension application S7251 at NARA — sworn testimony naming his father and county of NC residence; resolves both the ministerial generation question (father vs. son) and the Rowan/Orange county ambiguity for ahn 414 simultaneously.
- FamilySearch microfilm 0022117 page 64 (Providence probate book) — last unchecked primary path for Sayles-Williams connection; requires authenticated FamilySearch access or in-person Family History Center visit.
- Physical access to Absher "Stokes County NC Wills 1790–1864" (Southern Historical Press 1985, OL3059201W) at NC State University, UNC Chapel Hill, or Wake Forest University — search index for any Wilson testator naming Richard as heir; Stokes County carved from Surry County 1789 (Richard's birthplace county), making this the highest-priority undisplayed resource for ahn 64's father.
FOUNDER-HANDS ITEMS
- FamilySearch authenticated login — search Georgia Death Certificates 1919–1998 for Eva C. Foster (née Brown), b. Sept 4 1885 SC, d. Nov 2 1938 Hall County GA; death certificate should name parents by law; single highest-probability unlock for Eva Brown's parentage wall.
- Physical library visit — Absher "Stokes County NC Wills 1790–1864" (Southern Historical Press 1985, 155pp): copies at NC State University (Raleigh), UNC Chapel Hill (Wilson Library), and Wake Forest University; not digitized; search index for any Wilson testator naming Richard as heir or legatee.
- FamilySearch authenticated login OR in-person Family History Center visit — microfilm 0022117 page 64 (Providence probate book); last unchecked primary-document path for Sayles-Williams connection; all other Early Records Vols. 1–4 paths exhausted.
- NARA request or FamilySearch authenticated session — Rev. James Morgan Jr. Revolutionary War pension application S7251; sworn testimony naming father and NC county; resolves "Rev." prefix generation question and Rowan/Orange county ambiguity for ahn 414 in one document.
