Six targets assigned. Three open lines resolved at PROBABLE+ tier (Goodspeed upstream, Wooding upstream, Alice Pemberton baptism year). One contradiction retired (Pemberton baptism year — definitively 1565 NS). Two walls held (GW Gibby death date, Catharine Sayles parentage). New contradiction flagged (Olney–Sayles marriage date, round-4 Arnold correction possibly wrong). Richard Wilson gets his first primary-source placement (1790 Stokes County NC census).
Headlines
Goodspeed line pushed back two generations. Nathaniel (2) Goodspeed (ahn 2824, b. 6 Oct 1642 Barnstable, d. May 1670) and his wife Elizabeth Bursley (ahn 2825, b.~1649) confirmed as parents of our Nathaniel (10) (ahn 1412) from the 1907 Goodspeed genealogy's verbatim citation of Plymouth Colony Records. Their parents Roger (1) Goodspeed (ahn 5648) and Alice (Allis) Layton (ahn 5649), married Dec 1641 at Barnstable as original proprietors, added at PROBABLE tier. Roger's English origins explicitly unknown ("not been learned from what country Roger (1) came").
Peter Wooding's parents confirmed. Father John Woodin (ahn 2828) confirmed CONFIRMED from primary source (Rowley MA Vital Records verbatim: "Peter (Wooden), s. John, Mar. 13, 1674"). Mother Mary Johnson (ahn 2829, d/o Edmund Johnson of Hampton NH) confirmed PROBABLE from the peer-reviewed Delorey 1989 American Genealogist article and Coombs 2019 monograph. Elizabeth Mallot's parents (Hosea Mallet, Grace Mallet) remain POSSIBLE-only — doc section below, NOT in viz.
Alice Pemberton's baptism year DEFINITIVELY RESOLVED as 1565 NS. The third independent check (this round) confirms chronological position in the Brigg 1897 transcription is unambiguous: Alice's entry falls after Dec 31, 1564 entries and before the '1565' heading at Mch 25. The '1563-4' heading Agent 1 cited covers only the Jan 6–Mch 17 1563/4 OS block and does NOT include Alice's entry. '18 Feb 1565 NS' is the only defensible reading. Retires the open contradiction from round 5.
Robert Pemberton (ahn 22554) promoted from POSSIBLE/off-viz to CONFIRMED on the viz. The baptism register entry "doughter of Eobort" = Robert is a verbatim primary-source confirmation. His burial 16 Jul 1578 St Albans was already CONFIRMED from round 5. Moving him onto the tree.
GW Gibby death date: the round-5 synthesis reasoning is refuted, but the 1909 date is not confirmed either. The TVA database column is definitively DEATHD (not cemetery metadata), making 1915 a confirmed death date for "Gibbey, Wash" — but a 16-year birth year discrepancy (TVA says 1860, GW Gibby known as b.1844) leaves the identification uncertain. 1909 date on site (from WikiTree, no primary sources) and 1915 date from TVA (primary database, uncertain identity) are both live. No VIZ-CHANGE; CONTRADICTION logged.
Richard Wilson (ahn 64) gets first primary-source geographic anchor. 1790 Stokes County NC federal census confirms him as head of household (2 adult males, 1 under-16 male, 6 females). Same census has John Wilson and Philip Wilson as neighboring heads — possible kinship cluster. Parents (POSSIBLE-only secondary sources claiming John b.1745 and Mary b.1747) do not meet PROBABLE threshold.
Catharine Sayles parentage: no primary source found in 21 volumes of Early Records. The marriage record (Early Records Vol. V p.255) CONFIRMS the 1692 marriage and the name "Katheren Sayles" but does NOT name her parents. The Roger Williams descent chain remains anchored-per-Austin only.
NEW CONTRADICTION: Olney–Sayles marriage date may be wrong in the tree. Round 4 "corrected" the date to Dec 20 via Arnold Vol.2. Round 6 reads the primary Early Records of Providence Vol. V p.255 directly: "December the 28th." The 1889 Olney genealogy also gave "28th." Arnold's Dec 20 figure may be a transcription error from Providence Book 1 p.423. Neither is verified against the original manuscript page. See CONTRADICTIONS section.
VIZ-CHANGES
Goodspeed line — two new generations
ahn 2824 — ADD NATHANIEL (2) GOODSPEED
- Operation: ADD_PERSON
- Dates: b. 6 Oct 1642 Barnstable MA; d. May 1670 Barnstable MA
- Confidence: PROBABLE
- Source: Goodspeed genealogy 1907 (Weston Arthur Goodspeed, Chicago) vol. 1 p.55, verbatim: "NATHANIEL (2), eldest son and child of Roger and Alice, died in May, 1670... In November, 1666, he married Elizabeth, daughter of John and Joanna (Hull) Bursley, and by her had two children; both lived and reared families — (3a) Mary (9) born Feb. 18, 1668. (3b) Nathaniel (10) born 1669 or 1670."
- Rationale: The 1907 genealogy provides verbatim genealogical record integrating Plymouth Colony primary sources. Nathaniel (2) is our ahn 1412's father.
ahn 2825 — ADD ELIZABETH BURSLEY
- Operation: ADD_PERSON
- Dates: b. ~1649; d. unknown (after May 1670; remarried Increase Clapp, moved to Rochester MA)
- Confidence: PROBABLE
- Source: Goodspeed genealogy 1907 vol. 1 p.55 and footnote, verbatim: "he married Elizabeth, daughter of John and Joanna (Hull) Bursley." Footnote: John Bursley m. Joanna Hull 28 Nov 1639; their third child Elizabeth born 1649. Plymouth Colony Records Vol. V pp.42-43: Elizabeth served as administratrix after Nathaniel (2) died.
- Rationale: Mother of our ahn 1412. After Nathaniel (2)'s death she became administratrix, then remarried Increase Clapp and moved to Rochester MA c.1700 with young Nathaniel (10).
ahn 1412 — UPDATE PARENTS
- Operation: UPDATE_PARENTS
- Person: Nathaniel Goodspeed (10)
- Field: parents
- New value: father = ahn 2824 (Nathaniel 2 Goodspeed), mother = ahn 2825 (Elizabeth Bursley)
- Confidence: PROBABLE
- Rationale: Directly stated in the 1907 Goodspeed genealogy under Nathaniel (2)'s entry; no independent primary source contradiction exists.
ahn 5648 — ADD ROGER (1) GOODSPEED
- Operation: ADD_PERSON
- Dates: b. unknown (England; origins explicitly unresolved); m. Dec 1641 Barnstable MA; d. unknown
- Estimated birth: ~1616 per E1 rule (m.1641 − 25)
- Confidence: PROBABLE
- Source: Plymouth Colony Records Vol. VIII pp.43-44 quoted in Goodspeed genealogy 1907 vol. 1 pp.19-20: Roger arrived Barnstable in 1639 as one of its original proprietors; married Alice Layton December 1641. Named as father: "NATHANIEL (2), eldest son and child of Roger and Alice."
- Dead-end note: "It has not been learned from what country Roger (1) came, nor in what vessel, nor when. The same is true of Alice Layton." (1907 genealogy vol.1 pp.19-20.) English Chancery case '37 Goodspeed vs. Goodspeed' (1625-1649) cited in the book as a possible English-origin lead — not pursued.
ahn 5649 — ADD ALICE (ALLIS) LAYTON
- Operation: ADD_PERSON
- Dates: b. unknown; m. Dec 1641 Barnstable MA; d. unknown
- Estimated birth: ~1620 per E1 rule (m.1641 − 21)
- Confidence: PROBABLE
- Source: Same Plymouth Colony Records and 1907 genealogy as ahn 5648; named as "Alice Layton" at marriage, thereafter "Alice" only.
ahn 2824 — UPDATE PARENTS
- Operation: UPDATE_PARENTS
- Person: Nathaniel (2) Goodspeed
- Field: parents
- New value: father = ahn 5648 (Roger 1 Goodspeed), mother = ahn 5649 (Alice Layton)
- Confidence: PROBABLE
- Rationale: Stated directly in the 1907 genealogy: "eldest son and child of Roger and Alice."
Wooding line — parents of Peter Wooding
ahn 2828 — ADD JOHN WOODIN
- Operation: ADD_PERSON
- Dates: b. ~1620 (England, unresolved); d. ~1678 Essex County MA
- Confidence: CONFIRMED (parentage link); PROBABLE (birth/death dates)
- Primary source, verbatim: Rowley MA Vital Records (vitalrecordsofro00rowl, archive.org), WOODENG section: "WOODENG (Wooden), Dorcas, d. John, Feb. 10, 1671. Peter (Wooden), s. John, Mar. 13, 1674." — This is a verbatim primary-source confirmation that Peter (Wooden) is son of John.
- Secondary sources for dates/biography: Delorey, Janet Ireland, "John1 Woodin, Brickmaker, of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and North Carolina," The American Genealogist Vol. 64 (Oct. 1989); Coombs, Whitney John, Anthony Coombs and Dorcas Woodin of Rochester MA (2019, anthonycoombs2019cw, archive.org). Occupation: bricklayer/brick-maker. Family trajectory: Hampton NH (1643) → Haverhill (1646) → Salisbury (c.1656) → Newbury (c.1667) → Rowley (1671, where Peter born) → Beverly (c.1679).
- Wife: Mary Johnson (ahn 2829), daughter of Edmund Johnson of Hampton NH. Died c.1678 Essex County MA; English provenance undocumented (first appears in New England records c.1643).
ahn 2829 — ADD MARY JOHNSON
- Operation: ADD_PERSON
- Dates: b. ~1625-1630 (Hampton NH area); d. before 26 Mar 1692
- Confidence: PROBABLE
- Source: Delorey 1989, American Genealogist Vol. 64, identified as daughter of Edmund Johnson (and Mary) of Hampton NH; corroborated by Coombs 2019 (anthonycoombs2019cw). Not named in any Beverly or Rochester vital record — identification rests on peer-reviewed genealogical article.
- Rationale: Mother of our ahn 1414 Peter Wooding. Died before 26 March 1692 per Delorey.
ahn 1414 — UPDATE PARENTS
- Operation: UPDATE_PARENTS
- Person: Peter Wooding
- Field: parents
- New value: father = ahn 2828 (John Woodin), mother = ahn 2829 (Mary Johnson)
- Confidence: CONFIRMED (father from primary source); PROBABLE (mother from secondary sources)
- Rationale: Rowley VR verbatim confirms John Woodin as Peter's father. Delorey 1989 and Coombs 2019 confirm Mary Johnson as mother.
Alice Pemberton — baptism year and father
ahn 11277 — UPDATE BIRTH DATE
- Operation: UPDATE_DATE
- Person: Alice Pemberton
- Field: b
- New value: 18 Feb 1565 NS (bp. St Albans Abbey, Hertfordshire)
- Confidence: CONFIRMED
- Source: Brigg 1897 transcription of St Albans Abbey parish registers (parishregisterso00stal, archive.org) verbatim: "Feb. 18 Alice Pemberton doughter of Eobort." Chronological position is unambiguous: the entry follows Dec 31, 1564 OS entries (under the single '1564' heading) and precedes the '1565' year heading at Mch 25. The '1563-4' heading Agent 1 cited governs only Jan 6–Mch 17 of OS 1563/4 (= NS 1564) and contains no Feb 18 entry.
- Retires: b:null on Alice Pemberton's current site page.
ahn 22554 — ADD ROBERT PEMBERTON
- Operation: ADD_PERSON
- Dates: b. ~1535 (est. per E2: first child John bp. ~1562 − 27); d. bur. 16 Jul 1578 St Albans
- Confidence: CONFIRMED (as Alice's father from baptism register verbatim)
- Primary source, verbatim: Brigg 1897 (parishregisterso00stal): "Feb. 18 Alice Pemberton doughter of Eobort" — "Eobort" = scribal rendering of Robert, consistent across three entries: "John Pemberton sonne of Eobert" (c.1562 NS) and "Sara Pemerton doughter of Eob:" (3 Aug 1567). Round-5 finding also confirmed his burial 16 Jul 1578 directly from the same parish register image.
- Note: Previously held at POSSIBLE/off-viz because his identification with the Visitation of Hertfordshire's Robert Pemberton stays PROBABLE. His identity as Alice's father is now CONFIRMED from the primary register entry.
ahn 11277 — UPDATE PARENTS
- Operation: UPDATE_PARENTS
- Person: Alice Pemberton
- Field: parents
- New value: father = ahn 22554 (Robert Pemberton); mother = ahn 22555 = Katherine Pemberton (POSSIBLE only — do NOT add to viz; widow by 1578, maiden name unstated in register, "Stokes" claim circulating on one secondary site is unsourced)
- Confidence: CONFIRMED (father); POSSIBLE (mother — keep off-viz)
Richard Wilson — story update only
ahn 64 — UPDATE STORY (1790 Stokes County census)
- Operation: UPDATE_STORY
- Person: Richard Wilson
- Field: story
- New value: First primary-source placement CONFIRMED: 1790 federal census, Stokes County NC (formed 1789 from Surry County) — Richard Wilson as head of household: 2 free white males 16+, 1 free white male under 16, 6 free white females, 0 slaves. He would have been ~22-23. Same census lists John Wilson (1 adult male, 3 females) and Philip Wilson (1 adult male, 4 boys under 10, 4 females, 1 slave) in same county — possible kinship cluster. No Richard Wilson or Strain entries in 1790 Surry County NC tax list, consistent with both families having already relocated to the new Stokes County side of the line. NCGS Macon County estate files index: Wilson, Rachael (1851) and Wilson, Richard (1857) — confirms family died in Macon County (formed from Haywood 1828).
- Confidence: CONFIRMED (census placement); PROBABLE (Macon County death — estate year 1857 anomalous, may be later administration or a different Richard Wilson)
- Source: 1790 Federal Census, Stokes County NC (docsouth.unc.edu/csr + genealogytrails.com/ncar/stokes/); NCGS North Carolina Estate Files, Macon County Index.
NEW-PEOPLE (PROBABLE+ tier, for viz and bios)

ESTIMATES-RETIRED
Alice Pemberton (ahn 11277): Birth moved from null/undated to 18 Feb 1565 NS — real date (baptism record, primary source). There was no active estimate on the site (Alice was b:null), but the undated status is now replaced.
Stephen Goodspeed (ahn 706) death year: The tree already shows d:1763 (per round-5 synthesis). Round 6 independently CONFIRMS this from the primary probate record verbatim via the 1907 Goodspeed genealogy: "Departed this Life on the First day of June Last past" (per the October 22, 1763 administration grant). The 1776 Agent A figure is definitively refuted. No change needed; confirming the existing d:1763 is correct.
CONTRADICTIONS
1. GW Gibby death date — round-5 reasoning refuted; outcome still unresolved
Round 5 tree-doc synthesis accepted the second agent's interpretation: that the TVA database entry "Gibbey, Wash | 1860 | 1915" represented cemetery-active-span metadata (the Judson Public Cemetery's 1860-1915 operational span), not a person's birth/death dates. The site was left at GW Gibby d.1909.
Round 6 definitively refutes the cemetery-metadata interpretation:
- The TVA database column is explicitly labeled DEATHD (not a span field).
- Other Judson Public Cemetery entries show death years of 1911 (Nellie Gibby) and 1925 (Sallie Gibbey) — proving the cemetery was active beyond 1915, making "1915" a poor proxy for the cemetery's closing.
- The column structure is: LASTNAM | NMFRST | BIRTHD | DEATHD | PROJECT | ST | CO | ORGCEM | ... — DEATHD is personal death date.
Current status:
- TVA entry "Gibbey, Wash" (DEATHD: 1915) is CONFIRMED as a personal death date in the TVA database.
- However: TVA "Gibbey, Wash" birth year is 1860; known GW Gibby birth year is ~1844 (per WikiTree Gibby-62) — a 16-year discrepancy.
- WikiTree Gibby-62 gives GW Gibby d. Mar 29, 1909 (NO primary sources cited) — POSSIBLE only.
- Two live interpretations: (A) TVA "Wash Gibbey" b.1860/d.1915 IS GW Gibby with a weathered-grave birth-year misread; (B) "Gibbey, Wash" is a younger relative (son, nephew) buried at Judson Public, while GW Gibby died 1909 at a different cemetery now known as Lauada/TVA Memorial Cemetery (only 42 graves, separate from Reloc. Judson).
- Site stays at 1909 pending primary-source resolution (death certificate or 1910 Swain County census showing GW Gibby's widow). This is a FOUNDER-HANDS item.
2. Olney–Sayles marriage date — round-4 correction may be wrong
Round 4 "corrected" the William Olney III + Catharine Sayles marriage date to December 20, 1692, citing Arnold, Vital Record of Rhode Island Vol.2 pp.137+163 ("Providence Book 1 p.423").
Round 6 reads the primary Early Records of the Town of Providence, Vol. V, p.255 directly: "William Olney & Katheren Sayles both of this Towne of Providence were (after lawfull Publication) both lawfully joyned together in Marriage December the 28th in the yeare one Thousand six hundred ninty & two."
The 1889 Olney genealogy also gave "28th" (described in round 4 as the "1889 relay" figure). Arnold's "20th" now stands as the outlier — it cites an intermediate source (Providence Book 1 p.423) that was not directly compared to the printed Early Records.
Status: Do not change until Providence Book 1 p.423 is checked against the manuscript or image. If Arnold made a "2" vs "8" transcription error (not uncommon in hand-copied 19th-century vital records), the site's December 20 date (currently drawn) should revert to December 28. The primary Early Records is the more carefully edited modern transcription.
3. Alice Pemberton baptism year — RETIRED (now resolved)
Previously open from round 5: "18 Feb 1564 NS vs 1565 NS." Round 6 definitively resolves to 1565 NS. This contradiction is closed.
POSSIBLE-ONLY FINDINGS (doc record; NOT in viz-changes or new-people)
Elizabeth Mallot (ahn 1415) — parents POSSIBLE only
Hosea Mallet (ahn 2830, POSSIBLE): Elizabeth's father identified as Hosea Mallet (died c. Nov 1690) in Delorey, Janet Ireland, "John1 Woodin, Brickmaker," American Genealogist Vol. 64 (Oct. 1989) and per WikiTree Mallot-17 citing Suffolk County Probate File Papers (NEHGS). NOT independently verified from primary source. The circumstantial naming evidence is suggestive: Peter and Elizabeth named their only son "Hosea" (Rochester VR Vol I verbatim: "WOODEN, Hosea, s. Peter and Elizabeth, Dec. 16, 1713"), and the name Hosea is highly unusual in this period and region. The naming is consistent with honoring the maternal grandfather.
Grace (unknown maiden name) Mallet (ahn 2831, POSSIBLE): Elizabeth Mallot's mother. CONFIRMED to have married Benjamin Balch Sr. in Beverly on March 15, 1691-2 (Beverly Early Records verbatim: "Benjaman Balch & Grace Mallett Ware Joined to gather in Marraige by Simon Bradstreet Esquire on the fifteenth day of March 169[1/2]"). The link making Grace specifically Elizabeth Mallot's mother rests on Delorey 1989 only — no primary record names Elizabeth as Grace's daughter from the Mallet marriage. Elizabeth was born Boston Apr 19, 1678 (FamilySearch Massachusetts Births and Christenings 1639-1915). Beverly VR Vol I confirmed to contain NO Mallot/Mallet/Mallett birth entries of any kind (negative search confirmed across 20,735-line file).
Next step for Elizabeth's parents: Delorey 1989 full text at NEHGS (AmericanAncestors.org subscription) + Suffolk County Probate File Papers for Hosea Mallet c.1690.
Richard Wilson (ahn 64) — parents POSSIBLE only
Secondary sources claim John Wilson (b. ca. 1745) and Mary Wilson (b. ca. 1747), explicitly described as "unverified tradition" in those same sources. A John Wilson appears in the 1790 Stokes County NC census alongside Richard Wilson (1 adult male 16+, 3 females) — consistent with an older couple whose adult son Richard had formed a separate household. No will, deed, or tax record has been found linking them. Do NOT add to viz.
Catharine Sayles (ahn 1409) — parentage POSSIBLE only per Austin
The 21-volume Early Records of the Town of Providence (Bowen Index) contains NO birth record for Catharine Sayles naming her parents and NO estate entry for John Sayles II naming Catharine as a child. The 1692 marriage record (Early Records Vol. V p.255) identifies her only as "of this Towne of Providence." The single chain of citations runs: Austin 1887 dictionary (p.353 OLNEY entry: "Catharine Sayles of John & Mary (Williams) Sayles") + Austin 1889 → same compiler twice, NOT independent corroboration.
The RW descent chain from Austin 1887 remains ANCHORED-PER-AUSTIN (PROBABLE): Austin's OLNEY entry states "Catharine Sayles 'of John & Mary (Williams) Sayles'" verbatim; and John Sayles's 1670 deed speaks of "my father-in-law Mr. Roger Williams" (verbatim). These are secondary-in-secondary citations, not independent primary sources. Do NOT mark as CONFIRMED.
Ralfe/Randall Pemberton (POSSIBLE) and Katherine Pemberton (ahn 22555, POSSIBLE)
Randall/Ralfe Pemerton: Baptized Mch 19, c. 1559-60 NS at St Albans (Brigg 1897: "EandaU Pemerton" under March 19, between '1559-60' and '1560' headings). No father name given. Relationship to Robert Pemberton's family is unclear — do not assume.
Katherine/Catherine Pemberton (ahn 22555): Alice's mother; widow by Robert's 1578 burial. "Maiden name Stokes" claim circulating on one secondary site is unsourced. Keep off-viz.
FOUNDER-HANDS
Priority 1 — GW Gibby death date adjudication
- Access 1910 Federal Census for Swain County NC via FamilySearch (collection 1727033) — search for George Gibby/GW Gibby (~age 66 if alive), Wash Gibby, and Sarah (Lequire) Gibby as widow. Widow status in 1910 would confirm 1909 death; husband present would confirm survival.
- Search FamilySearch Collection 1609799 (North Carolina Deaths 1906-1930) for Gibby/Gibbey in Clay, Cherokee, and Swain Counties. A death certificate gives parents' names, exact date, and county.
- Access 1910 Clay County NC census, Shooting Creek and Tusquittee townships (microfilm T624, roll 1112) — these pages are not transcribed online but are on FamilySearch/Ancestry.
Priority 2 — Olney–Sayles marriage date (verify Dec 20 vs Dec 28)
- Check Providence Book 1 p.423 against the manuscript or a microfilm image — this is what Arnold cited for December 20. If the manuscript says "28" and Arnold transcribed "20," the site's current Dec 20 date needs reverting to Dec 28. The Early Records Vol V printed text (Dec 28) and the 1889 Olney genealogy (28th) both point to Dec 28.
Priority 3 — Catharine Sayles parentage (RW closer)
- Moriarty, "John Sayles of Providence," TAG 15 (1938-39): 228-230 — only 3 pages, the key peer-reviewed article establishing the children list. Available via AmericanAncestors.org subscription (NEHGS) or interlibrary loan. Its footnotes will reveal what primary documents Moriarty cited for Catharine's parentage.
- Providence Book of Probate, c.1681 — the estate of John Sayles II (d.c.1681, who married Mary Williams) would be filed here. FamilySearch lists "Providence probate records to 1775 with index" and "Wills (1678-1916)" — browse-accessible with free FamilySearch account. Rhode Island State Archives (150 Benefit St, Providence) holds originals.
- Judith A. Hurst, "Sayles Country: A Social History, 1600-1986..." (Gateway Press, 1986, OCLC 13656475) — at FamilySearch Library (item 662996), AbeBooks. Covers "some descendants of John and Mary (Williams) Sayles" with full primary-source citations.
Priority 4 — Elizabeth Mallot parentage (Hosea Mallet confirmation)
- Delorey, Janet Ireland, "John1 Woodin, Brickmaker," American Genealogist Vol. 64 (Oct. 1989) — the authoritative article, confirms Elizabeth Mallot's parents from Suffolk County Probate. Access via NEHGS AmericanAncestors.org subscription.
- Suffolk County Probate File Papers for Hosea Mallet (~1690) — cited via WikiTree Mallot-17. Search AmericanAncestors.org / NEHGS Suffolk County Probate docket index c.1690-1692.
- FamilySearch Massachusetts Births and Christenings 1639-1915 for "Elizabeth Mellot" or "Mallot," born April 19, 1678 in Boston — check the record for father's name to verify Hosea Mallet identification.
Priority 5 — Richard Wilson parentage (wall still standing)
- The Strain Family genealogy (Parker, Wood, Strain; Commercial Printing Co., 1985; LC 85067235) — 400-page published genealogy with chapters "Rachel Strain Wilson" and "James Wilson Family." Available through WorldCat libraries and Amazon (ASIN B002EQM7IG). Library of Congress holds a copy. Read BEFORE any other Richard Wilson research — will identify what primary records were used.
- Andrew Strain Sr.'s 1826 Haywood County estate file (NC State Archives, Raleigh) — will list heirs who received distributions. If Rachel Strain Wilson or her husband Richard Wilson appears, this is a primary-source anchor for the Strain parent-child connection. Contact NC State Archives at (919) 814-6840 or request by mail; series = Haywood County estates, 1809-1942.
- Eddleman "Abstracts of Haywood County, NC Deeds, 1808-1838" (Southern Historical Press, 2005) — physical book; Parts V, VI, and remainder not online. Would reveal whether Richard Wilson appears as grantee (arrival) or grantor (departure) in Haywood County deed books.
- Stokes County NC Deed Records, 1787-1797 (Heritage Books) — search for Richard Wilson buying or selling land 1789-1800.
- 1810 Buncombe County NC census images — the index shows the Wilson surname on 10 pages (76, 78, 79, 82, 83, 86, 89, 96, 98, 99) — viewing these pages on FamilySearch would confirm whether Richard Wilson was counted in Buncombe in 1810 (consistent with son Levi being born in Haywood Co 1810).
Priority 6 — Roger Pemberton's full will (TNA PROB 11)
- TNA PROB 11, Roger Pemberton's 1627 will (the document that names "my cosen and Godsonne Roger Williams," source for the Williams-Pemberton connection) — remains undigitized. Requires National Archives (Kew) on-site or document ordering. Not urgent given Alice Pemberton's parentage is now CONFIRMED.
Research dead-ends logged (do not re-pursue)
1776 death year for Stephen Goodspeed (32) — definitively refuted. Not present anywhere in the 1907 Goodspeed genealogy. Agent A confused Stephen (32) with Stephen (76) his son (b.1738, last in records Nov 1818). Probate record is unambiguous: "Departed this Life on the First day of June Last past" (October 1763 administration grant = June 1763 death). Hosea (80) cross-check corroborates: "his father died when he was about thirteen years old" (1750+13=1763).
Alice Pemberton baptism year 1564 NS — eliminated definitively. The '1563-4' heading covers only Jan 6–Mch 17 1563/4 OS (no Feb 18 entry); the '1564-5' heading exists only in the MARRIAGE register section, not the baptism register; Alice's baptism entry falls chronologically in Feb 1564/5 OS = 1565 NS.
TVA "cemetery metadata" interpretation — structurally refuted by the database's own column headers. The DEATHD column is a personal death date; other Judson Public entries span 1911-1925, disproving any "cemetery-span" reading of 1860/1915.
Ithamar Wooden as Peter Wooding's father — ruled out. Rowley VR confirms both Dorcas and Peter as children of John; Ithamar's Beverly children were baptized 1685-1692 while Peter was himself born 1674 — they are brothers, not father/son.
Beverly VR for Elizabeth Mallot's birth — confirmed negative (no Mallot/Mallet/Mallett birth entries in 20,735-line Vol I). Elizabeth was born Boston c.1678, not Beverly.
Rhode Island Wooding connection — No Rhode Island Wooding/Wooden/Woodin found in any source. This branch is entirely Essex County MA and Plymouth County MA.
John Sayles probate p.64 as source for Catharine's parentage — that probate is for John Sayles III (b.1654, d.1727), not John Sayles II who married Mary Williams. It distributes land among his SONS. Even if accessed, it cannot establish Catharine's parentage from John II + Mary Williams.
