Context
- Weight: 204 (peak) → 188 now, targeting 175–180 settle, then strength-building at stable weight.
- ~8–13 lbs from target ≈ roughly one more clothing size (his 10 lbs ≈ 1 size heuristic is about right for shirts/jackets; pants move ~1" of waist per 8–10 lbs).
- Onsites returning: KnowBe4 Clearwater Wed 7/15 · Kwik Trip La Crosse ~Aug 3–4 · more coming with the DSA role.
- 4 years WFH = professional wardrobe lax. Goal: client-room-ready without over-buying mid-transition.
Strategy — two phases (his "don't pull the trigger too early" instinct is correct)
Phase 1 — bridge (now, ~$300–500 total): minimal, mid-price, easy-return pieces that fit at 188. Cover KB4 + July onsites. Nothing here is the forever wardrobe.
Phase 2 — the real capsule (when 175–180 holds ~3–4 weeks): invest + tailor. This is where the money goes.
Strength-phase fit rules (matters because lifting changes fit even at stable weight):
- Jackets: buy to fit the shoulders, tailor the waist. Shoulders are the un-alterable part and the part lifting grows.
- Pants: favor tailorable waistbands or stretch; waist may keep shrinking while thighs grow.
- Knits (merino) are the most forgiving through body-comp changes.

| Category | Pieces | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Trousers (4) | charcoal, light grey, navy, khaki/stone | His black/grey/khaki list + navy. One honest push: standalone black slacks are the least useful — they read formal/uniform unless part of a suit. Charcoal does everything black does, better. |
| Jackets (2) | navy blazer first, then light grey or unstructured stone (FL summer) | Second push: a black sport coat is the least versatile jacket — hardest to pair with anything but grey. Navy is the workhorse that works over every trouser above + dark jeans. Black as an optional third if he loves it. |
| Shirts (5–6) | white ×2, light blue ×2, 1–2 subtle pattern | Performance/stretch cotton button-downs; wrinkle-resistant matters for travel. |
| Polos (3) | navy, white/cream, grey | FL client-casual + Kwik Trip's midwest-casual culture. Quality solids, no logos. |
| Knits (2) | navy + grey merino crew or quarter-zip | Over-AC offices, WI shoulder seasons, layers over a button-down. |
| Dark jeans (1) | dark indigo, no distress | Travel days / smart-casual dinners. |
| Shoes (3) | brown loafers or suede chukkas (workhorse) · clean white leather sneakers · black cap-toe derby (phase 2, pairs w/ the suit) | Shoes + belt are what people actually notice. |
| Suit (1) | navy, phase 2 ONLY | For exec QBRs/formal client moments. The most size-sensitive, most expensive item — buy last, after weight is stable. |
| Belts (2) | black + brown | Match shoes. |
| Basics | socks batch (match trousers), undershirts, packable rain shell | Batch-refresh; cheap. |
| Bag | structured laptop brief or sleek minimal backpack | The beat-up WFH backpack is part of the "lax" read in a client room. |
Phase 1 bridge buys (this week)
- 1–2 trousers w/ stretch (light grey + navy)
- 2–3 button-downs (white, light blue)
- Brown loafers IF current shoes are rough — shoes survive the weight change, so this can be a phase-2-quality buy now
- Skip the jacket for now unless he wants one for KB4 — jackets are the most size-sensitive purchase and Tampa-July QBR = business casual (jacket optional-carry at most)
Bridge-friendly retailers (fit-forgiving, easy returns, cheap enough to abandon at the next size): Uniqlo (Smart Ankle pants), Bonobos (stretch, many fits), J.Crew Factory, Banana Republic Factory.
KB4 Wednesday (7/15) outfit call
Light grey or navy trousers + white or light-blue button-down + brown loafers. Jacket optional-carry. Clearwater in July, half-day workshop, Snowflake + phData teams — business casual is the room.
